Re receiving or not receiving invitations as a child:- I have no recollection one way or the other but do remember having gone to parties. I also remember there being a number of cliques in the classes and we couldn't give a stuff (technical term :heehee:) one way or another about what happened in the other groups. We had enough going on in our group to keep us interested.

I can only assume that the way we had been brought up was to not let silly things like minor rejections affect us. Life was what happened and we took it as it came.

Here comes the trite saying. "It never did us any harm!" :snork: Well! Apart from Alan, John and Andrew who ended up in jail :lunapic 130165696578242 5: (GBH for beating up two fellows twice his size that had made a racial slur against him; shoplifting; fraud). The rest of us worked hard and ended up in jobs we said we enjoyed and are still, apparently, happily married. Seven of us, the only ones I know about, are all approaching our golden weddings and none of my old school friends are divorced. What that shows, I'm not sure! But us oldies always play the "When I was a lad" card. :heehee:

I was listening to this on the Jeremy Vine programme, very interesting, the teacher concerned felt that when invitations were brought into school and ceremoniously handed out in class to all except one or two children who were disappointed/upset, that this was in its way a form of bullying!! Why invite all the class except 1 or 2? 1 or 2 more cannot make much difference.
I must say, rightly or wrongly that I found myself agreeing with her.

Why is it when you phone the doctors for a appointment, you ask for one the next day and she says yes there 2 available appointments at 4.30 and 4.45.
But can you phone back tomorrow morning @ 8.30am to make a appointment :gaah:

Must have been 1969, the Hapenny had just been withdrawn, my Nan gave me and my cousins a penny each to buy some sweets, only mine had been 2 Hapennies and the shopkeeper wouldn't accept them.

I went back to tell my Nan and she just said "Oh" and took them back. My cousins all got sweets but I didn't :cry3::sad:

It was the only thing my Nan ever gave to me, only thing Granddad ever gave me was a tin of ball bearings that he stole from the factory.

I did enjoy them though :):catapult:

                  Facebook again! :wallbanging:

I decided to enter a photographic competition for the first time today, apart from GC that is. :) The competition is for a brochure advertising a local transport company and they want pictures of the local scenery. So, I selected my pics and proceeded to the website. Once there I was then given a link to place the pictures, that link is FACEBOOK! Do these companies think that everyone lives their lives through this blasted site, I for one won't have anything to do with it! As far as I could see there was no other way of entering the competition and I'm fuming! :gaah:

It was probably a free way to get local pictures .If you had put them on Facebook they would have had them for free.

                      Bloody Cyclists! [IMG]

Taking Mrs C to work this morning, I had just passed through a set of lights, bus oncoming on the other side of the road who was passing parked cars so he was partly over the line onto my side of the road, and Mr Cyclist riding up the pavement on my side (heading in the same direction as I was) - I moved to my left to allow the bus to pass through; not a massive amount of road space available, but enough for us both to pass safely without slowing to a crawl - then, Mr Cyclist decided he didn't want to be on the pavement any more, so bumped down onto the road, without looking, right in front of me.

I slammed the anchors on and managed to avoid the choices he had given me (flattening him, or eating bus parts), and then a few hundred yards ahead the pedestrian crossing lights went red. I drew alongside him, and had a word (I even managed to be polite, and not swear!), but he seemed not to care a jot just how close he came to being my bonnet mascot.

I'm definitely getting one of those cameras when I can afford it, the roads are full of utter numpties.

You should hear (totally unprintable) what my arctic driving daughter has to say on the subject of cyclists, nearly as bad as what she says about caravans but not quite!

Silu,do they have Cyclists and Caravans up in the Artic?:cool:Would love to see them and I should imagine the cyclists would have to wrap up a bit to keep warm but the caravanners would be ok as a lot of the vans are all insulated for four seasons and the double glazing in them is pretty good as well and they usually have heating in them nowadays:sofa:

I'd get on well with your daughter by the sounds of it - I detest caravans with a passion; and I have more than enough experience of the behaviour of cyclists around large vehicles.
