Down to 4'c here last night but Sundays forecast looking promising for a touch of frost.

We too were close last night but my Dahlias are still fine so no frost yet despite living in Scotland, plus I live up in the hills (not mountains!) away from any coastal influences. Almost November, pretty good for us up in what's often referred to as "The Frozen North"!

3C yesterday morning, but the car thermometer dropped to 1C out in the sticks, on the way to work.
A very slight touch of frost around dawn, enough to just brown the edges of the nana's leaves, but gingers and dahlias unaffected.

Anyone else noticed how on the weather reports we dont actually hear "ground frost" anymore, they all seem to call it "grass frost".
In my case it was a very slight "ground frost", I'd look stupid calling it "banana frost".

We had a "roof frost" the other morning. Everything at ground level was untouched, but the roofs had a fair frost on them at dawn.

I don't know the definition of the difference, but I have understood Grass and Ground frosts to be two different things ... or is that Air Frost perhaps?

I've always taken it that air frost is when the air temperature at the accepted height above the ground, ( cant remember the height, something like 5ft), reaches zero or lower.

Ground frost, (grass frost) is when the temperature at soil level reaches zero, this can happen on clear nights when the actual temperature is around 4C or a degree or so lower.

First frost here in West Lancashire Sunday night, down to -1°c . So took some time to defrost.
@Bilbo675 I missed the frost warning , hope my Cannas will be OK ? I can only lift them this weekend, night temp for the rest of the week is above 5°.

They'll be fine Harry, some people wait until the top growth gets frosted before lifting anyway :)
