When i used do to heavy haulage with police escout most of the road rules went out the window, ie; one load 60 foot long, 15foot wide, 16foot 1 inch high and 150tons. Around roundabouts the wrong way, down one way streets in the wrong way, love it :dbgrtmb:

Red and yellow are both correct assuming highways have painted lanes on roundabout accordingly.
I have same near me, but roundabout is not wide enough for three lanes but they have tried to paint them anyway. Gets a bit exciting at busy times !

Was all easy until someone at the ministry had a brainfart and decided painting more lines on a roundabout would be helpful.

I think red is safer; there doesn't appear to be room for two straight ahead lanes, as the shaping of the exit does not easily allow it. However, the red option is not showing a line keeping left before leaving on the second exit, so I may have to vote "none of the above". Just noticed that the red option pushes R-turning traffic onto hatched lines, so I'd say yellow without the outer straight-on line is best.
I don't think the road markings provide a clear guide to traffic. As with all complex roundabouts, expect the unexpected and keep watch over both shoulders! The safest way to go straight-on is to keep to the left H

So is there a 'correct' answer to this (question mark doesn't work on my keyboard) IMHO it's the yellow lines - two lines of traffic going straight across the roundabout with two lines of traffic exiting straight across the roundabout. Some highways authority numpty has put some cross hatchings blocking off the right turning drivers.:doh:

Or......is this a ploy to reduce speeds (question mark) - note to self look at getting a new laptop.

Right, time to spill the beans I suppose.

I pass through this junction every single day in life (sometimes more than once) and on a regular basis I either find myself (or see others in front of me) almost being side-swiped on the nearside, when travelling ahead in the offside lane of the two ahead lanes.

Yellow is the course that I believe to be correct. I agree that the lane markings on the three lane section on the lead up to the roundabout is mis-leading to anyone that is not familiar with the area.

The right turn filter lane (nor the hatch markings) is not an issue; the left turn lane is also not an issue.

I shall attempt to explain; and this time with less vague images (I was deliberately obtuse when writing the opening post to see what answers I would get without leading anyone)

                  hbr2 right.png
OK, when I pass through this junction I am almost invariably taking the pink line, with any cars ahead of me that are turning right peeling off as per the green line.

The problems arise when someone in the yellow line decides to take the racing line, and essentially carves through the path of anyone in the pink line:

                  hbr2.png
This happens on a fairly regular basis, and in fact I had a woman in a Mercedes A-Class do it to me last night (we were literally beside each other, all but level, but she apparently couldn't see me right next to her); I braked, to allow her to pass in front, and gave her a toot to make her aware of my presence and in all fairness to her I got a sheepish wave by way of apology - - something that most others do not do.

The really odd thing is that this scenario only plays out in this direction- the junction layout on the way back through the same junction is exactly the same, yet I cannot think of ever having had someone carve me up in the opposite direction. The only difference is that the return journey is on a slight downhill slope (as opposed to the slight incline on the direction shown above).
