Did some more tidying up and cutting back. Almost filled another compost bin. Emptied out some containers. Thinking the beds were looking very drab and bare then noticed that some hellebores, anenomes and primulas were already coming into bud and the winter jasmine has started to flower. The wallflowers that have barely stopped flowering since spring are looking lush and full of their autumn blooms. Lots of bulbs coming up too. Started the day feeling a bit sad at the death of the summer flowers but ended up cheered up at all the new beginnings.

@Sian in Belgium and @Sheal I think they definitely count :blue thumb: :heehee:

It rained all day yesterday so all I did in the garden was to sort out the bird feeders. I've put in the last of the summer/autumn feed and the winter feed should arrive tomorrow.

Ok, after that telling off :heehee:, today I've moved some of the wood waste the council wouldn't take back down to the bottom of the garden, and planted some bulbs (narcissus Triandrus Thalia, narcissus delnashaugh, tulip princes Irene and necaroscordum siculum) in a big pot that stands on a tree stump in the middle of the garden. Hope it works!

Oh, and also planted the wild primroses and cowslips that I brought back from my mum's garden...

The beauty of it is that you don't need to rinse it off, just spray it and leave. Here's the link to the website.

            Taken from the website :
Every 5 Litre pack yields 30 litres of product to spray. With this you will get coverage of between 100 - 300 sq m depending on the porosity of the surface. ie painted surfaces will use less but porous surfaces readily absorb the product and therefore coverage could be in the range of 100-150sq m .

I use it quite sparingly on my paving and it does the trick so I would think if you are spraying paving stones you should be able to do them with one bottle.

I wouldn't buy it from that website though - I get mine from Costco for about £22 inc VAT.

No gardening today! I've become a weekend gardener - when I leave for work at 7.30 am and get home at 5.00 it is too dark to garden so I am now only seeing my garden at weekends. Then I clean up all the leaves and by the next weekend it's just as bad again! And there is still many more to fall.

Don't you just hate this time of year Annie? I'm lucky, as I'm not working I see daylight. It was a beautiful day here today but I still lost out with the gardening, I spent the day out trying to entertain my three year old grand-daughter.:)

Yes, thanks Annie, today we enjoyed ourselves. There are times when she can be a proper little madam though! :heehee:

Forgot to say re the Wet n Forget - says on the website it can take weeks to work but I've noticed a difference in a couple of days both times I've used it.

A little more pottering done today before going to teach at dog school.

The last of the water lettuce removed from the barrel pond, and put on the compost heap. Bird table moved across, so it does not interfere with my "drinking coffee whilst looking at the frost" activities! "Building" compost bin stacked to get maximum heat for decomposition. A couple of 40 litre trug-fulls of compost put onto the raised veg bed, and a cloche put over the late season lettuce. Drive swept of leaves, and the last nut feeder filled.

Just time to finish my cuppa, before setting out :)

Binned a few UFOs - Unidentified frozen objects while defrosting the big freezer in the shed! Then sorted out the sacks of potatos and put some into plastic boxes to keep out the mouse. Picked up a few more pears and stored them. Discovered old rug while tidying shed so put it on top of compost heap to keep in heat - it's noticable warm even without the rug as pears and leaves added recently are decomposing nicely. Vac'd up yet more leaves.
Gave "words of advice" to moggie visiting front lawn, but it didn't hang around to hear everything :cat-kittyandsmiley::gaah:

I've taken down the last of the runnerbean plants.

Started to cut back the blackberries and am trying to keep up with the apples.

We've now cooked and frozen 50 packs, are eating apple crumble etc almost every day and still have loads more to go. I've stopped selling them as I can't guarantee the condition at this time of year.

Some of the cooking apple trees are still holding on to their leaves but the eaters seem to have lost most of them.
