    Hi FC
Sorry to hear about all this but a good thing it has been detected and they are onto it. My best wishes for you to get it under control and back to full fitness asap. In the meantime take care of yourself and keep us posted if you can.

p.s. spare us the gory bits as I also have needle horrors ;)
    Cheers

Thanks GG - I am trying to stay optimistic about it all; I'd far rather find out like this than in the back of an ambulance with a paramedic playing trampolines on my chest.

Dunno Zigs. I weaned myself off salt years ago and now I can't eat anything with added table salt or some processed foods which often taste too salty to me. I started off using Lo Salt (I'm not sure if you can still buy it) and eventually stopped using that too.

Well at least it's been spotted and now it can be controlled. :dbgrtmb:

Definitely FC. Not sure how old you are, but when I hit 50 after a half century of perfect health, things started popping up out of the blue including high BP, and yes it does make you feel low and concerned. We are only human after all. Still, sounds like they have you well in hand. Keep your spirits up.

Evening @fat controller, I've only just spotted this thread. Sorry to hear of your woes. I hope you're better soon.

Re the blood pressure bit, be careful with the NHS on that one. They have a tendency to stick you on medication for the rest of your life if you're not careful, when it could just be a blip.

Take me for example. All my life my blood pressure has generally been lower than normal, yet at one point in my life it went through the roof, to the point that my nose randomly started gushing blood for no reason and my arms and legs went numb. At the time it happened I was stressed to the core, and I have no doubt this contributed to my episode. Luckily I had a good GP who warned me about the NHS tendency to stick you on tablets and send you away, and instead he worked with me to sort out the underlying problem.

In a separate incident much more recently, my wife developed dangerously high blood pressure. She was prescribed medication and told that was it for the rest of her life. She didn't want to take them. We bought a blood pressure monitor and she started monitoring 4 times a day every day, and at the same time started back on riding her bike. Nothing intense, just 3 or 4 miles through local woods. Her BP dropped back to normal and stayed there.

I'm not saying I know better (because I don't), and I'm not saying its the same for everyone (because I know it isn't), but two things really. Firstly it may not be so bad, it may just be a brief episode, and secondly, maybe see if anything can be done about it that doesn't depend on long term medication.

I seem to remember you saying in another thread that you were stressed and/or run down at the minute. Could this be a factor?

Is that why I always feeling really lethargic after I've been to the chippy for lunch?

Well worth the money, and talking about money, if you're going to be needing regular prescription drugs then investigate a Prepayment Card because one will save you a fortune especially if you get prescribed two different tablets every month.

I'm only 37 (well, 38 in February, but still!) - hypertension and all its other effects are like diarrhoea in Levis (runs in the family ), and my mum was diagnosed with high BP when she was 39.

However, I am not going to sit back and just take this as gospel and permanent - I am going to get a BP monitor and keep an eye on it ('scuse the pun) myself and will spreadsheet it too, so I have a record.

@clueless1 - yes, stress is almost definitely a factor. Although contracted to 35 hours a week, and on weekdays I leave site just before three to pick my wee one up at school. I often bring work home with me and work on into the evening; I also work a lot of weekends (for which i get paid for the most part in fairness) so days off tend to come in ones - and when they do I am often buzzing about catching up on all those wee jobs (car cleaning, gardening, general Mr Fixit stuff).

I also think that my diet, or more my eating habits, are a major contributor - I very rarely have breakfast, and tend to run on coffee throughout the day, having an evening meal when I get in, so I need to address that. Somewhat oddly, I had already sorted out stuff for lunches for the next few weeks as I was already aware that flying by the seat of my pants with now't to eat all day wasn't a great idea.
