Good question - for grafting onto Quince rootstock presumably? I think I might have read something about that some time ago when I thought the tree might be going into terminal decline. I've got some Japonicas to take over in the short term.

If the tree is breaking you might be able to do a fresh graft back onto the existing by slicing into the bark.

If it takes, then you could cut off the damaged bit and then let the graft become the new leader.

    Just a thought. :)

Loli do you have heated gh? Mine isn't and I'm thinking of sowing some dill just not sure if it's gonna live through the weather were suppose to have in November!

I've started started them off in a propagator and then will sit them on my heated bench but a warm window sill will do:dbgrtmb:

I grew a couple of Tomatillo plants this year outside, they seemed to do OK, lots of fruit from rather badly behaved plants:

So today I made some Salsa to see what they taste like:

Looks pretty authentic - lots of seeds ! Needs a week or so in the dark to mature but not a bad effort at all.

And yes - I did give them 20 mins in the water bath so hopefully they wont start to ferment (unlike some of the other things Ive done this year..)

We did some tidying jobs today. Cleared away the tomato plants. Because of the warm summer we've had, nearly all the tomatoes have managed to ripen, only got about 1.5 lb green toms off the plants. Not enough on their own for anything, so added some marrow and made 4 jars of chutney.

Cherry tomatoes are still going so we'll keep them for the time being. Here are the cherry toms we picked today and the last bit of the home grown aubergines

A couple of pepper plants are still healthy looking and productive. Unless we have frost they'll keep going for a while yet.
