With your own personal monitor you can check out whether anything actually raises or lowers your blood pressure.

Beetroots have a higher sugar content than carrots or turnips.

Decaf is a no-no :nonofinger: Tried it a few times, and just don't like the taste - besides, decaf coffee is like taking a bath with your clothes on to me.

I promise I won't overdo the bananas either - besides the sugar content, they are rammed with potassium which can have an effect on BP.

Had a brief word with the GP last night when we had Little C in for an appointment (she has a wee infection bless her, which has knocked her off her food for a few days - hopefully antibiotics will sort her out), and he reckons that I am doing the right things so far.

As for the pre-made food, well that is something that I was knocking on the head bef0re all this kicked off - hence growing all the veggies :dancy: - I'll just need to make the garden work that bit harder next year.

And don't forget bought bread.....it's full of salt. Home made bread is much better!

Most places do a low salt bread if you don't make your own.

Sainsbury's do a decaf coffee that supposed to be OK (I don't drink coffee, so don't know) and it's called Gold Roast Decaf.

If decaf is a no-no, how's about knocking coffee on the head altogether? Or limiting it to one a day?

I have a tendency to become addicted to coffee, and my coffee intake starts creeping up and up. Then before I know it I can't concentrate, have a permanent headache, and, I discovered, my eyesight becomes rubbish.

That last point might seem odd enough to warrant a bit more explanation. I'm technically supposed to wear glasses when I'm at the computer, but almost always, I can see better without them. Every now and then I go through a phase where I need to wear my eyes though, then it goes away again. I've just had one such spell last week and Monday where I had to wear my eyes, but also last week I realised that I'd crept back up to drinking loads of coffee. This week I've been on the tea instead (still has caffeine, but either not as much or not as easily absorbed or something) and lo and behold, I can see fine again. So I started thinking back to my other temporary nearly blind episodes, and I realised I can link them all to periods of copious coffee intake.

I know, coffee is nice, but so is tea, and its more refreshing.

There's 17 other compounds in coffee apart from the caffeine as far as I remember. I stopped drinking it full stop, made me go funny [IMG]

Hope you get sorted out FC but it's good that potential problems have been identified sooner rather than later and you'll be spared a couple of men in green trying to make you light up by applying a few thousand volts.
With regard to salt, we stopped using it when cooking a few years ago but still add a bit on the plate when we feel the need. It has certainly made a difference to our palates as we can now detect when food has been over salted when on the rare occasions we eat out or buy supermarket meals and tins.
Reducing salt takes a little while before your palate gets 'educated'. But it's worth the time.
