Sadly our friends at our river property are having to return to Norway for health reasons and are selling their much-loved home. Just in case anyone has any interest or knows someone who might ... http://beckinghampalace.planetaclix.pt/AlgarveHome.pdf €15,000 (Fifteen Thousand Euros) at today's exchange rate is c£13,000 (Thirteen Thousand Pounds).
Hello Jack Yes, that's £13,000 to buy and site fee of £2,300 pa plus water and electricity ... more than in Spain but less than a lot of park home sites in the UK.
Was at the river today and was told the above property is now for sale at an incredibly unbelievable 6,000 Euros (yes, six thousand Euros) ALL INCLUSIVE OF FURNITURE plus they have negotiated the site fee down to 175 Euros per month ... Shall we?, shan't we?, shall we?, shan't we? ... ????? It's on the same level as us, ie, 4, we are the far end up against the hillside, this one the near end.
Sorry, but it's in Portuguese ... I wonder why ... http://silves-silves.olx.pt/pequena-casa-pre-fabricada-iid-440729889 Edit: It has come up in English with geo-targeting ...
Clive, we did seriously think about it but the owners of the site have bought it for their son in Canada ... haven't asked but potentially a rental property? We have enough on our plate at the moment with other properties to take on another ... even be it at a 'giveaway' price. An English couple apparently came along to buy and the owners jumped on it immediately obviously seeing the potential. Our friends don't plan to move to Norway till April ... sensibly avoiding the bitter winter there so we still have them around for a while.
Hi Victoria, John & Helen here we were the couple that came to buy the home at Silves but even after increasing the offer to €8000 we where told that the owner wanted it for their son and this after driving 500 miles from Spain, I didn't think anymore of it till I saw this forum and saw that the home had been on the market since 2nd. August 2013 which seems to me that the owner of the site was intending to buy this all along at the lowest price possible and this doesn't seem very good to me, Hope you understand but I don't like this sort of thing. John & Helen.
@Victoria, I get that the price was low for what it is, but is it somewhere near typical? I've often played with the idea of buying a holiday home in the med somewhere (never really considered Portugal, for no reason at all except that I never thought of it), but everything I've looked at was either purpose built ex-pat colony, or way more than I need (or can afford). I nice little pad would be ideal.
Hi, Clue, and sorry I have taken so long to reply. The selling price of €6,000 was certainly low for what it is ... the original asking price of €15,000 (just under £12,000) was reasonable which is what we paid for ours a little over a year ago (9 meter van with 3x4 meter cabin attached). You can get them cheaper but they would be located like sardines on a boring site with up to 1,000 vans. This site is unique, on a hillside by the river on 6 levels with only seven 'permanents' and space for a dozen or so 'tourers' / campers. It is owned by Portuguese and has the benefit of a boat dock, bar/restaurant and swimming pool on the river (closed for the winter now). Here is the location from across the river with the boat dock/bar/restaurant to the left ... ... and the location of ours ... ... view of Silves from our patio of Storks in the Wetlands ...
