I keep on about this one, but the must have Alstro is A.psittacina (IMO at least).................

It has a long blooming season, grows to about 1/1.5 metres, strong stems, divides readily and is totally hardy. Only downside is that mine is the variegated form, which is the easy one to get hold of.

Due to circumstances beyond my control I've not been into the garden for the last month as much I would have liked, nor even had the camera to hand. But I took a slow amble around the garden today and was fascinated by the way the freezing cold had given some of the flowers into an almost waxy texture.

Primula "Gold Lace" which is sitting very crowed in a small pot in a large tray in 3 inches of water and seems very happy despite the freezing cold temperatures:dunno:

Is that early? No sign of any Arums around here, although my Hermodactylus have been through for a few weeks now.

Our Italicum are always at that stage in November. They've been up for a few weeks now.

There's no sign of Maculatum yet - and we try to remove them when they appear. They're much more rampant than Italicum and don't look anywhere near as good.

I'm not much of a fan of fuchsias but I do love Hawkshead. Now the weather has changed the pure white flowers are turning a beautiful tan colour. I'm really pleased with my Chinese Lanterns too.

The geranium sanguineum in the same planter acts as a great foil

Maculatum is my permitted weed! I really like them.

Have you got Italicum? I think they're much more attractive.
