Ison: The comet of the century - on 3rd December

Thanks John. Just found the Horizon programme referred to on the link you posted. Something to watch later.

 

I can understand the idiot's guide. Go outside in a few days and look the the left hand side of the moon.

 

I hope it is as impressive as the Hale-Bopp comet of 1995 . That was really easy to see over quite a few days. Then again Haleys comet in 1986 was a bit of a flop , I never saw a thing !

Things gradually get better in terms of position as we head into the first week of December, the comet first becoming accessible from 2 December onwards, low in the east-southeast before sunrise and low in the west-southwest after sunset. If the comet develops an impressive tail – something we're all hoping will happen – then this will stand up in the morning sky but lay flatter to the horizon in the evening.

"Binoculars are probably the best way to locate the comet at the start of December but take care to make sure the sun is below the horizon when sweeping around."

Oh well it will save us standing outside freezing to death waiting to see a smudge in the sky that is hardly visible.
Like most of the last few comets, that were billed as spectacular.

 

No body likes a "Know all".
