        Aloha everyone,

The tree surgeons were here from dawn to dusk and did a lot of work. They'll be back in the new year to do some more work.

When I've got my before and after photos done I'll post them on the 'what have you been doing today' thread.

The two biggest jobs were giving the willow a haircut and reducing six conifers by about 20ft or more. They also thinned out a very overgrown large cherry prunus, reshaped our twisted hazel and removed dead and dying branches from some of the big trees. Even with their giant chipper they filled up two lorries!

Sarafi was a bit disgusted with all the noise and, after warning off their dog (he attempted to eat the lamb skin and fat that I had taken off a leg of lamb), slept in the greenhouse all day.

I shall get out there soon and see what needs tidying up. They had to remove Rosemary (the statue) and I've just noticed that they've put her back wonky. So I'll have to rearrange her. I'll also check up on the buddha that they moved.

        Have a great day

        Aloha!

Shiney....That sounds like a good job done:dbgrtmb: hope Sarafi gets over his sulk :cat-kittyandsmiley:

Kandy ..hope alls well with you and yours...i expect you're busy preparing for Christmas:dbgrtmb:

It's a yucky damp day today but the Blackbirds are loving it...nice soggy grass makes it so easy for them to get the the big fat juicy worms, they look to be having a great time playing tug of war:blue thumb:

I really ought to have swept the chicken run out yesterday while it was reasonable dry it would have been easier:doh:

        Waves to all....
Have a great day and take care:SUNsmile:

          Aloha Woo and everyone,

I'm hoping the lawns will be dry enough to mow. It's the longest I've ever let them grow at this time of year and I'm not happy about it . It's also in a mess from the tree work. Apart from from big muddy patches where they had to keep dragging the branches away there are holes where the big branches hit the ground. They've also damaged some of my lawn edges :hate-shocked:. They did the best they could but they didn't use any anti-gravity equipment :nonofinger: :heehee:

Yesterday was the first day without all the light being cut out by the trees and it turned out to be the murkiest and dampest day we've had for ages!

Ah well! Today will be nice and bright. So I can start to get things done.

          Have a great day

          Aloha!

          Good morning everyone,

          Hope everyone is OK:dbgrtmb:

Shiney.....It must make a huge difference with the conifers cut down....what a big job:phew:it'll be interesting to see how much growth the Willow puts on by the time it's your open day:thumbsup: i'm sure you'll have your lawns back in tip top condition in no time ,i know the workers have a job to do but it must have made you cringe when you saw the chunks of tree dropping it would me....i remember having one of the chimneys removed on our Bungalow a few years back ..the work men came and i suddenly heard this thumping sound....they were removing the bricks one by one and just flinging them on the lawn:hate-shocked:until i stopped them...they weren't so chatty after that:whistle:
          "it's only grass".....i'll give them ONLY GRASS....:old:

It's another damp day out there and the wind has picked up so at this rate the last of the leaves are sure to fall,a lot of the herbaceous plants are still hanging onto theirs though.....

          Waves to all.
Have a great day and take care:SUNsmile:

Did you use a hedge cutter? A serious question as there was some research done a few years ago and they found that the best result the following year (they did a number of trials, alongside each other, of at least six different ways of pruning them) was the one done that way!

Good evening Shiney I did use a hedge trimmer once when I was head gardener at Cobham Hall,on a rose border with over 100 Queen Elizabeth ,it went OK but I prefer Secateurs as it is easier to cut all the canes in the same direction (sloping the same way) so that the rain runs off them, and it's quieter plus its much more rewarding and relaxing and its a cleaner cut;):)

              Good points :blue thumb:

I'm a bit on the annoyed side this evening. We've had another five power cuts today! :mute:

Shineyland will have to think about installing its own power station.

Woo... that's a big job you've done today:phew:....but your efforts will be rewarded next May time:dbgrtmb:

Shiney....i don't wonder you're a bit annoyed....i understand on some occasions these things can't be helped but i think you've had more than your fair share of power cuts lately...have you got a generator?....i took charge of one a few weeks back, just incase of emergencies just waiting for an electrician to fit the appropriate socket:dunno:.....that's not my department:blue thumb:
