I am in the process of clearing ivy from a redbrick wall. I have managed to clear all but a small section that is high up and unreachable. My question is will the remaining ivy continue to grow even though it has been cut off completely from its ground roots? In other words can it get nourishment through it's attachment to the wall?

It might, now it knows its lost its source of food & water it'll go into panic mode and try to form ariel roots that can penetrate cracks in the masonry. Keep an eye on it, you might need brushwood killer if it gets a hold.

    That's scary.

The problem is I cannot reach the bit that's left. It's too high up. Some of the ivy that I pulled off was very firmly attached to the brickwork with tiny hairlike roots.

I've cut loads down & any that's been left has never regrown, but it will shoot out from the roots with amazing speed.
