No, been meaning to bring that one up.:goodpost:

It depends if they overwinter really, they might not reach their true potential till the spring, in which case we'll have hell of a lot of walking stick srouting broccoli:DOH:

What do we think people ?

Mine are not big, but big enough for a walking stick...I guess. I thought that the end of this growing season would be the end...then a year to dry them before we can make the sticks from them?

      Steve...:)

I dont know how big others are exactly but I'm guessing you would need a few feet of sappy stem to remove at the top before you get it woody enough for a walking stick.

So probably at least 5 to 6 ft to the crown I would guess.:)

      No chance for mine then.

Shall we call closing date the first frost ? We'd have to agree on the first frost in a given place though. Its already frosty in Alaska.

Well that could be a bit fuzzy Ziggy, is that ground frost or air frost?
      See what I mean.:D

I think we just need a cut off date, like 1st December or 1st Jan perhaps.

      You are right Pete.

Between Christmas and New year might be an idea, give us something to do inbetween?

        Good thought,

I'd go for the Day after Boxing Day, when everyone is thinking, what do we do next?

Best wait to see if John goes along with that too, he's been a major player in this. Think he might be on hols this week though.

Yes, well we need total agreement.
I guess we should have stated this at the start, but no rush really.

Hello, back from hols and I'm happy to go for a close on the day after Boxing Day.

Are we going to measure them in-situ or cut them down?

Maybe we should have agreed on the rules at the start of the competition :heehee:

I was thinking about this when I was looking at mine.. I have 2 which at the moment may be contenders, but I think the last time I saw Johns they were huge in comparison.. I will go along with what you decide.. :D

Welcome back John, did miss you. Recon we should measure in situ, and I will be about 30th on the scale.

This is a first for GC, so we are making up as we go along:dbgrtmb:
