We've got snow forecast for a couple of hours this evening. I took Reggie out for a walk earlier, poor fella could barely keep his eyes open because of the wind! Still, he's a border terrier, they're supposed to be used to it, as a breed ;) It's still very windy out there, I won't be going out again today!

It's been pretty wild here but amazingly no real damage apart from the garden looking ransacked.....i've been lucky.... the Chef at work had to go home as he got a call to say there was a shed lodged in his back bedroom window:yikes:.....it was one of those tin sheds that belonged to his next door neighbour and it just took off......
I only had one near miss when driving home from work...that was when a stray carrier bag decided to cling to my windscreen...it came from nowhere and was quite scarey i can tell you:phew:

Still gusting but nowhere near as bad as it was....

    Please take care everyone:thumbsup:

Have to say, it's quite amusing watching a 48kg dog trying to defecate in strong wind: one step forward, two steps back! :heehee: :doggieshmooze:

I didn't venture far today, just a local walk with the dog. Probably just was well looking at some of these photos, I don't think I've ever seen flooding on this scale in Merseyside or Blackpool!

It's beginning to look serious down this way now. All day long, the local media has been full of warnings about the storm surge affecting coastal towns and villages.

The authorities have been advising people to evacuate their homes and emergency centres have been opened in towns and villages all around the coasts of Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex.

The low lying coasts in this part of the country are particularly vulnerable to storm surges of this type and the whole East Anglian coast is currently on a state of high alert.

Amazingly, some people are refusing to evacuate their homes despite being in serious danger.
Local TV news this evening showed the police going door to door advising people to evacuate, those who refused were actually being asked to sign disclaimers stating that they had been informed of the risks.

Local radio are now reporting flooding and power cuts in Wells-next-the-sea on the north Norfolk coast.
In Lowestoft the water has already topped the harbour walls and high tide is not due for another 2-3 hours.
Apparently the situation is being exacerbated by the fact that earlier in the day, the strong northerly winds meant that the ebb tide was 'held back' and did not recede as far as expected, adding to the body of water forming the storm surge.

On a positive note, while I know the BBC has its critics, at times like this their local radio network really comes into its own.
They are pulling out all the stops at the moment, running special live programmes and keeping everyone fully informed about what is happening.

For anyone with family or friends likely to be affected, you can hear up to the minute news here.

Started off breezy here this morning, peaking this afternoon with a 5 minute spell of some of the strongest wind I've experienced, I'd be guessing at 80mph+, you could almost hear it going up a level with an approaching roar. We lost 6 large ridge tiles from the roof, pots and buckets were blown all over the garden, my reed fencing around the veg patch was shredded........but my "blow-away" greenhouse that I have strengthened never moved an inch, no plants got shook off the shelves inside, so I was pleased with that :)

We rang the council about the tiles and they said they'd get someone out to replace the ones that came off on the 19th!!! and someone else to look at the loose ones on the 20th!!!!, so we now have to keep an eye on the two others that are precariously close to falling off the edge of the roof for the next 2 weeks!!!!!!!

Phone them back and ask them if they have suitable insurance to cover losses from personal injury if anything should happen between now and then. Remind them that most insurance firms wont accept a claim if it is for a problem that was known about but ignored, and ask them if they have enough money in reserve should you need to make a claim and their insurers wont pay out. I bet you 50p that someone will miraculously become available much sooner.
