I swear that we are back in the 80's!

The thick rimmed glasses that seem to be 'the fashion' (I am dreading going for new specs in a couple of months as it looks like I am going to struggle to find glasses I like), the Tories back in government, businesses folding and public services being cut, and now we are going to see the rise of electric blankets as recommended for those who cannot afford to heat their homes!

I hate electric blankets and always have, and remember loads of fires being started by them back in the day; besides anything else, what good is an electric blanket going to do for someone if they are lying in a bed that is in a freezing cold damp room?

What's wrong with a good old hot water bottle? Two if necessary. And two down/feather duvets.

Menopause resistant as you can kick them back, they're very breathable and you can shove the hot water bottle out.

I often get too hot in bed, even in an unheated room. I always wondered why. Now I know. I must be in my menopause.

I must have been in my menopause since I was about twelve then

Although, oddly, I do seem to be feeling the cold a hell of a lot more recently - I did wonder if it was possibly due to the BP meds. :dunno:

I feel for the older generation though, because they are the type that will still stick ten or twenty quid away every week in savings rather than heat their home properly.

Its worse than that. Ever wondered why old people are more prone to overheating in summer, and dying of hypothermia in winter?

There is a scientific explanation for it. There's a part of the brain that is responsible for judging how warm or cold you feel. As we get older, that part of the brain becomes less sensitive so we become physically unable to tell if we're too hot or too cold. Without that sensitivity, there are no internal alarm bells screaming "turn the heating on" or "take that big duffel coat off" etc.

This is well documented, and makes it all the more annoying when government advice is things like wear extra layers or drink lots of hot drinks. If you feel warm enough because you're not as sensitive to temperature as a younger person, then why would you wrap up more or drink more tea than you usually would? The cynical side of me suggests that maybe the government knows their advice is rubbish and 'budget for' a certain percentage of the elderly to fall foul of the weather each year.

Gotta keep the numbers from spiralling somehow Clue. I hope that by the time "my time" comes, they will be issuing little very deep sleep pills to those of us who see no more reason to wish to stay here any longer.
I love my under leccie blanket and I have woken up cold in the early hours . I cannot make myself get warmer so I switch it on to a low heat and can get back to sleep quite quickly. I do worry about not being able to warm up and I think I would go into hypothermic mode if I didn't remedy this in the way I do,

                        ...
There was an electric blanket on the bed at the B&B I stayed at in Lincoln.

Good job I didn't use it: I noticed when I was leaving that it had exposed wires coming out of the blanket plug end

                          Did you report it?

Imagine a new couple staying there, new enough that the magic is still there. The could have the most energetic night ever. Some might even describe the experience as electric. It would certainly rekindle the spark.
