And that is precisely what they want Bilbo to do, take any old job that a even an illegal immigrant wouldn't want, just to get him off their books.

I know....but it all depends how much you like or want the hassle of dealing with them. I know I couldn't be bothered going to a JC and putting up with that every time.

To my mind the JC is there, or should be there, to sort out those that actually are looking for proper employment, and those that arn't.
They should then actively help those that are and bury the knife in those that arn't.

They appear to me, from my experience, to be just allowing the layabouts to languish on their books, but those with a working background are very quickly stepped upon and told to take what comes.
I know of people who dont intend working, and haven't for years, they appear to get income every week, but if you become out of work and attend the JC, in a very short few weeks you find yourself being threatened, to take what comes regardless of if you fit the bill.
I was even threatened with going on a computer course, because no one actually understood what "joinery" was, and I've done that since I was 15.
        They are box tickers.
I never realised, until attending a JC that it was such a massive employer in this country, there are more people employed supposedly trying get "you" employed, than there are people out of work.

            Update.......

Well to cut a long story short, I complained about the JC employee in question and it got me no where, I continued to witness several other people being treated like dirt by her and a couple of others. She successfully placed a sanction against me on "a doubt", the very words that were officially printed on the letter I got!!!!, a doubt???

By early January I'd had quite a gut full of the place in general, the overall treatment of people in there is appalling, I've even read letters in the local paper about our local JC detailing just this. I decided that I was going to have a shot at going self employed, gardening and selling planters/hanging baskets, I sought advice from the 'the other' place in Derby where I had to go every month and they were fantastic, they couldn't give enough help and support, even giving me a small funding to help towards setting up. They also continue to give me 2 years support whilst I'm working so will help with tax forms, any photocopying or leaflets I need...oh they're called Ingeus by the way, far far more professional and friendly than the Job Centre and I even emailed them feedback saying the same :)

I also got advice from my Dad and friends who are self employed and so that's where I am today, recently registered with the HMRC and Tax Office and setting up to get going within the next few weeks, so please stop raining :heehee: :)

The other thing I knew but probably didn't realise how much, was how the whole JC episode was effecting my health, as soon as I signed off I felt so much happier and it really was like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders, I can say now I will never be going back and will be putting 110% into this self employment - Happy Days :)

Thanks again to everyone who offered help and advice on here and via private messages, it meant the World and at least i knew I wasn't alone :):ThankYou:

Bilbo, I have only just found this thread today and have viewed the dark, sad side and am now seeing the good side coming through for you - like Woo said. May I join the rest of the gang in wishing you the very best in your new 2014 venture,
                    Jenny

                      Nice one Bilbo :)

Think about adding pond cleaning to the gardening skills, a lot of folk have them but don't want to clean them themselves. Got a mate that used to do it, you'll need buckets & pumps and stuff, but might be worth looking into :)
