    Indeed ... unless they are Thuja then "maybe" (Yew would be fine) - looks more like Leylandii to me though, if so it won't regenerate at all.

        They definitely won't come back again on your side!!! What puzzles me is that you say they're they're the neighbour's conifers :scratch: but the fence appears to be the other side of them.

                The fence also belongs to the neighbour, put up because they didn't like looking at the bare area at the base of the hedge.
                I will get the chainsaw out later & tidy it up a bit.
