    :D That was the sheep judging before the Melplash Show, it had half the cast of River Cottage there, really odd seeing loads of people from the telly next to the garden:rolleyespink:

    Just heard from Sussexgardener (Aaron) he didn't get his planted & has been busy with his new job selling Whelks on Brighton's Sea front.

    Told him to come back soon:dbgrtmb:

    I think we should measure as Marley suggests, soil to top of growing point/bud. That will be the maximum length of the walking stick anyway. Also the tallest one I've got (on the left with the spade leaning against it) has really upright leaves. The other one on the right, where Marley has drawn the black line, has practically horizontal leaves - we wouldn't want anyone propping up their leaves to gain an extra inch or two - shiney!

      :sunny: I think that is the best idea John & if we do end up with two the same size then I vote the winner is decided by the girth of the stem at the top not the root end... :WINK1:

      Good to hear that Aaron is doing OK I have missed him being around... I hope he will come back in the winter perhaps... :sunny::sunny:

      Agree with soil to point of growing tip, but tape measure in photo not needed as its a fun challenge. I'll measure/photograph mine tomorrow. As in Johns shot I'll stick a spade in the ground next to it for a sense of scale.

      I rushed out yesterday to measure/photo my cabbages after Ziggy's alert. There was no getting away from the fact that they can be classed as...short! Then, I decided I should wait till the last possible moment and let them soak up every bit of this wonderful weather.
      If they grow another three or four foot in the next day or so....I'm in with a chance. Mind you, if they do - presumably everyone elses will too!

      Oh well, never mind eh? It's not the winning it's the taking part and all that!

        Using the new measurements it has reduced it from 69" to 54" - Boo Hoo :cry3:. It sounded much better the other way :D

        The next one down is 41", then 20", 13", 10" and then the maginficently miniscule ones. They were all planted at the same time but the pheasants decided to help me with my gardening.

          56 ins is the tallest I have got, grown behind a lot of other stuff so kind of got drawn up.

          My best looking one is only 54ins, but its really sturdy.
