Am I being naive or do the BBC have the same machine as Star trek so that they were able to beam the trophy over to Miami immediately the result was announced. I was led to believe the winner was decided on a phone vote taken during the programme so how the hell was the trophy (maybe not THE trophy but a replica?) in Miami ready to be presented to Andy Murray when the result wasn't known. It would have been interesting if Andy hadn't won! Probably being naive and the result was decided weeks ago and the telephone votes are irrelevant. Not exactly impressed that Andy wasn't at the award ceremony, it's not as tho he is in the middle of playing in The Australian Open which doesn't start until 13th January , very very few previous winners haven't been there in person and apart from a boxer (memory might be wrong) the only other winners not to attend were actively involved in playing test match cricket.

I think everyone knew he was going to win it as soon as the 'game, set, match & championship' was announced at wimbledon!
He's probably acclimatising to Oz and I can't say I'm bothered if he was there or not

Actually he isn't even in Oz yet, he's in Miami which isn't a 1,000,000 miles from the UK. The reason I was annoyed is that virtually all previous recipients, many MUCH bigger stars than him had the manners to be there and to me it smelt a little of him belittling what to me (having been a professional sportswoman) is a huge honor. No doubt I'm just being old fashioned as manners are far less important than the size of your bank balance these days. I'm also sad being a Scot that Murray didn't exactly do us proud last night.

He's recovering from back surgery. Dunno if flying to UK would muck that up, but for whatever reason that was the choice that he and his coach made (or so I read ...)

I guess he could have decided to fly back, hot favourite or not, and not won but jeopardised his recovery ...

If they decided the votes in advance then they could easily encourage the top 3, say, to make appropriate arrangements. Instead we have to have Real Time Agony Telly instead ...
