I get loads goldfinches......more than any other type of bird. I counted more than 30 the other day. They're very noisy and badly behaved on the bird feeders and don't like to give any of the other little birds a chance unlike the greenfinches who I've watched sitting on a branch very close to the feeders waiting their turn! The thing is, once the greenfinches get on there, they sit munching for ages and won't get off!

We have groups of goldfinches visiting out garden every now and then. I managed to take some pictures from the kitchen window (this is the time I realized how dirty the windows are:heehee:, hubby does go out and give them a clean, yet a bit of rain and we are back to dirty window again:gaah:) but most of the photos were not good especially the ones of the birds feeding on seed heads. Here are a few ok-ish ones.

I think the immigrants are starting you arrive now, but are about a month later than normal,

A couple of "misty" rubbish piccies of them this morning. They are bossy and stroppy with other birds but still timid when we are moving about near them and tend to fly off,

Jenny, you are right, the migrants are arriving. On Tuesday one of our beloved annual winter visitors, the blackcaps, arrived. Since then they've been playing hide & seek with me

The redwings arrived during the last 10 days in November, there are so many of them, the following photo shows just a small proportion of them

Here is one that came down to our lawn

Lovely photos HsuH. Is that a female blackcap with a brown cap? :)

                    Great capture HsuH.
Until recently Wintering Blackcaps (and female redcaps) were thought to be UK birds staying on but it appears that a majority of our Winter Blackcaps are from Europe, Germany, Denmark, Poland regions as our Winters are milder and it is a shorter distance to travel plus the fact that we feed birds far more in Winter than our European neighbours.
                    Not seen any here (yet).:frown:

Yes, Fern4. Male ones have a black cap while female ones wear an attractive chestnut-red hat. They always seem to migrate in pairs which is rather sweet:wub2:

I've just come back from an amazing walk around Lunt Meadows and wetland where I was honoured with the sighting of a Male Marsh Harrier and 3 Small Eared Owls, none of which I have ever seen in the wild. Floating on air myself right now! :-)

I'll take my camera next time, but I'm not sure the lens is anything like as powerful as I'll need.
