I was expecting dear old Gotty to have a long list of jobs that needed doing. She drives fine but I always worry about these things. I have a condition that I call Vehicular Hypochondria:)

I knew of two things that were wrong, both brake related. A dodgy sensor causing intermittent ABS failure (not as bad as it sounds, just means she becomes an old style pre-ABS car), and a dodgy handbrake, but I'd already ordered the replacement sensor to go in.

Anyway, I ask the garage to do all the checks that make up the MOT, but without it actually being an official MOT so they could let me know all the jobs that need doing before the MOT expires. I also asked them to fit the new sensor in place of the old failed one.

The suspense was killing me for over 2 hours.

I went to collect her. Got a pleasant surprise. Having replaced the dodgy sensor then tested her out, I'm told she would fail on her handbrake (I already knew - going to get that sorted), but other than that, nothing. She would have passed with flying colours. Brakes considerably better than the required standard, emissions as clean as can be, everything solid, nothing leaking. And a whopping garage bill of £75. That's labour for the full inspection plus fitting the new sensor.

I'm happy with that. Looks like I have the green light to start doing all the little cosmetic and superficial jobs I've been wanting to do, but have been putting off in case it turns out to be a waste of time and money.

Good news! But what about the oil leak causing frequent top ups needed?

I had a Corsa that lost oil all the time. Very distressing.

That's just a blocked crack case breather hose causing her to sneeze it out of the filler cap. When I get a spare couple of hours I just need to take one rubber pipe off, blast it out with carb cleaner, and stick it back on. Then she should be fine.

I replaced the crankcase breather on my GLT - bit of reinforced hosepipe (you know the green one with the white crossed threads through it) and a couple of jubilee clips - worked a treat :dbgrtmb:
