I have a very ordinary and rather out of date flip top mobile phone which has a 2G SIM.
It has always been reliable, but it has suddenly stopped responding to ingoing/outgoing calls??? I am on Orange network.
My Son has the same model phone except he is on T Mobile network, and his phone has stopped working as well????????? Just keep getting the answerphone connection.
Could it be due to the new 3G and 4G networks, have they changed the 2G ???
I hope I don't have to buy a new phone that would be a nightmare for a luddite like me!!

This might be a daft question, but you haven't accidentally knocked it into aeroplane mode have you? That cuts off all inbound and outbound communications, making your phone into a useless gadget.

Well I telephoned the number which mowgley was kind enough to give me and got a very helpful guy on the other end. He was almost sure that it is the phones which are at fault, apparently Samsung phones will block a number if it cannot be connected on numerous times due to lack of signal. He thinks that both phones have done this. Remedy is to get in touch with Samsung who apparently will then go through the procedure of how to get the phone to unblock on that number. This of course does not prevent the phone/phones from doing it again!! Other option is to manually connect to a mobile phone mast??? apparently 2G connection in my area isn't marvellous anyway. 3G is much better and 4G in my area is non-existant !!!! I actually felt sorry for the chap on the other end trying to explain things to a complete technophobe like me :heehee: So question now is where do I find a really basic phone that is 3G??? :dunno:

I've never heard of samsung phones doing that before but maybe someone on GC with a Samsung phone will know what to do. ....I haven't got a clue. I think I'd buy a new phone and not a Samsung! Maybe try Googling? :dunno:

My current phone is HTC but prior to this one I used Samsung ones for years and years. In that time I had numerous failed calls due to lack of signal at either end (no fault of the phone), and they never blocked the numbers.

My wife is currently on a Samsung phone, and again has been for years, with no such problem.

It sounds like a cop out to me.

Being logical about it, why would specifically Samsung phones do it? Before the Android OS, Samsung had their own OS installed on their phones, which was a modified version of another widely used one that would feature on many pre-Andriod phones. The new ones will all be on various releases of the Android OS.

So the chap is saying that this is a problem that spans multiple versions of multiple operating systems, but only on Samsung hardware?

          Sounds like fibs to me.
