My postie IS specifically authorised to sign on my behalf. I would much prefer he delivered, and signed for, anything than leave a card and cart it back to the sorting office ...

I may be misremembering remembering but I thought they had a Website you could go to to arrange a redelivery (at a time when you would be in)?

Must be a nightmare for delivery companies finding that people are out. perhaps we should all have secure parcel-delivery boxes on our houses (won't make sense for every house/flat of course ...)

        Our postie is great. :)
If we're not in and expecting a parcel, we leave a note on the door to either leave at 74 or put it in the bin and remove the note if you've done it.
It's like most big companies nowadays getting every last ounce out of you!
As scrungee says Canada are stopping delivering to houses.
My brother has a pigeon hole at the start of the new estate with about 150 or so holes and the postie in a van delivers to them.
Any parcels that need to be delivered, will have a note left in the pigeon hole to go and pick it up from the post office.

Our postie is good, we often get two deliveries a day here as well, he delivers some when he comes to collect the post from the post box. It's Yodel I've a problem with, stayed in all day yesterday for a "it'll be with you by 9pm", got a text message/email at 8:30pm saying my delivery had been made!! Phoned Yodel who told me a Clements had signed for it (not my surname!) and I'd have to take it up with the sender to chase! There are no Clements here in the village... Thankfully my sister works for the sender, she said after I sent a web-query to the sender, they would have called Yodel, rollocked them, got them to collect it from where they originally took it and deliver it correctly. The guy turned up half an hour ago, said he didn't work for Yodel but was an agency guy. Funny though how he drove off in his bright green/yellow liveried Yodel van that he'd parked around the corner... Diversion of mail to other than it's intended destination is an offence under RIPA 2000, the same section as the phone hacking lot at NOTW. Just saying...

One of our postie's was thoughtful enough to decide to go through our back gate to deliver something (rather than not at all!).
Poor blighter got the shock of his life: OZZY! (At full pelt :runforhills: ) :heehee:

The whole reason I hadn't heard him was because I was in the garden (gardening) with Ozzy. If only Postie had known the very worst thing Ozzy would have done to him was to offer to swap saliva :doggieshmooze: :pathd:

I wouldn't be a postman for love nor money: God bless 'em, I say!

I went for a job at the Royal Mail sorting office yesterday.
After the interview I was given a tour of the depot.

I asked the guy taking the tour "What's that machine?"

"That's the Acme 3000 Auto Sorter System. It can sort 150,000 letters an hour and it's 99.5% accurate. It's controlled by 12 supercomputers, each of which is 5000 times more powerful than an average desktop PC. It has over 15,000 state-of-the-art optical location identification sensors, contains enough circuit boards to entirely cover the pitch at the new Wembley stadium and it has 200 miles of fibre-optic cable. It cost over £100 million to develop," he boasted proudly.

"What happens to the letters after it's finished sorting them?" I asked.

"We give them to a bloke on a push bike." :love30:

Hah, all you lot complaining should live in rural France :heehee:

Though to be fair I don't think it's the local posties to blame - it's getting it to the local centre that takes the time. We don't have letter boxes in our doors here but a box at the front gate. Posties have a master key for the box and will put parcels straight in there so no need to leave a card if we're out. Not sure what happens if something is too big for the box as that hasn't happened yet

I agree, the poor posties do seem to get the brunt of the complaints. There are of course some who aren't too good, but I couldn't complain about our regular one. And who would want to do their job when it's snowing or siling it down with rain? I respect them for going out in all weathers, the early starts

Its definitely not the posties themselves to blame - they are being let down by their management and the structure of the company; its always the way, its rarely the staff on the 'shop floor' that make things run poorly, as they invariably are working their socks off.

Agreed, I know we all like a moan and having a go at the Postie but the Postie didn't put up the prices of stamps or parcel delivery, change the rules about the size, weights of parcels and letters so that it costs even more.
They don't have any control as to how many extra staff are hired for peak periods such as Christmas, the times of deliveries, the way that Management is tied into a bonus scheme for pushing workloads to the limits.
The Postie is the person going out in all kinds of weather, freezing, raining, blowing, getting their fingers trapped in the vice like letter boxes, running the risk of meeting a dog that wants to see how they taste and how fast they can run, and in the end takes the brunt of our frustration because we don't like or agree with the recent events within the Post Office......................................you can tell I've got a Good Postie, can't you!!:heehee:

I was once 'encouraged' by the management of the company I worked for at the time to drive right across the country to a pointless conference/seminar thingy (I was on notice of redundancy, yet they thought I should go to this thing to learn about what the company plans to do in the near future).

While there, one guest speaker was a senior boss from British Airways. He said something very refreshing. He told us that conceptional pyramid representing hierarchy was almost always upside down. To cut through the spiel and get to the point, he said of the staff under him, "I am not their boss, they are my boss, because if they didn't respect me enough to do their job well, I would miss all my targets, lose my bonus, and ultimately get fired". I wish more managers realised that. (I know many do, but also many don't).

Yep, not knocking the posties themselves. Its the management.

After my visit to the sorting office today, had 3 lovely parcels from GC members, you know who you are :):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):):)
