Hypothetically speaking, could there be a possibility of buying some of that land?

It got worse, the centre of Guildford was closed to traffic over Christmas. There were a couple of fence panels down in our garden but nothing too bad in our road really. We went for a walk to see the flooding on Christmas afternoon, it had subsided by then although a few cars were still under water.

A nearby town and some villages have been without electric since Tuesday, so we have been lucky.

The floods at the bottom of the village had gone down yesterday, but looking out of the window I suspect they're back again, fields look deeper and one by one the Weasles clinging to the branches of the trees are starting to drop off

Just noticed a DHL van right in the middle of the flood. Appears to have been swept into the ditch from the angle of it. There is a tractor with him but nothing seems to be happening.

I'm glad to hear there's some improvement. :) The country has really taken a battering over the last couple of weeks. It doesn't bode well for insurance rises again with all the damage that's been done.

Wait til the insurance companys start taking people to court if your neighbour hasn't dug there ditches, rivers and cleaned pipes down stream of you and caused the problem, I think there is a law (but not sure) that you can't stop your neighbour upstreams water from flowing through and into your ditch and so on

Came across Sedgemoor this afternoon and it was like an inland sea but the road was ok, just above the water line.

David Cameron said there were lessons to be learned. Oh really? How many times have we heard that before!

I'm not sure what lessons can be learn t, other than dont build near rivers or on low ground.
Around here some of the villages are known to flood occasionally, the buildings are not new, in fact quite old, I just think it was expected back in those days and taken as one of the drawbacks of living in those areas.
As to new build, well its all part of the property race and anyone buying in such places should beware, although I cant see why the house builders cant just build slightly different designed houses on these sites, with say living accommodation up high.

If they admitted the property will probably get flooded then the insurers wouldn't cover it. Even if it was on stilts.

Why not, if it was built to be flood proof?
If the living accommodation was always well above the flood line, I cant see the problem, other than access for a few days about every ten years.
