i walked the dog about 1 hour ago and the rain was just starting and the wind was picking up. I think that this weather front may be a little slower than the others we have had. I hope I'm wrong and it's gone in the morning :dunno:

Those hatches have been battened down for the last couple of months Armandii, I've not been near my garden in that time either apart from making adjustments to the batons that are pinning my greenhouse door to the frame. I've got a broken runner on the bottom of it so it's flapping around, I can't risk losing the door completely and of course in this weather I can't risk repairing it either in case that doesn't go to plan. The weather from the south-west hits it face on.

The rain has stopped here now and the wind has dropped for the moment......lulling me into a false sense of security no doubt!

Yvonne....I think you miss the weather we get here sometimes, having battered the island it then heads off to Scotland.

Which way is the Wind blowing from now, Sheal??:snork: It seems to be coming more from the West than the Southwest at the moment.:dunno:

Our local news has just told us about some flood warnings for through the night. A few miles up from me though. It was nice today, forecast to be horrid tonight (its raining now but nothing significant), then miserable tomorrow then again on sunday.

I've bolted the wheelie bins to the wall.

I've just been out in the back garden and I think it's coming from the south, it's difficult to tell at the moment as my back garden faces north west. However, my local forecast says that it will move from the south-east round to south-west sometime after midnight and pick up again. So it could possibly be shifting now.

Thanks Sheal. Well, the Wind still seems to be Westerly here. That might be because the Bickerton Hills might be deflecting it even more to the West than it's original direction.:dunno::snork:

still blowing a gale out here & if the forecast is anything to go by it'll be here a good while yet :gaah:

we got a real fright last week (a "proper" fright, the kind where you go all pale & clammy) when the storm was at its hight & howled like a banshee all night long, we awoke to find half a dozen broken roof tiles littering the garden! :yikes:thank goodness they weren't from our roof:phew: but our poor neighbours, they really got the worst of it as it also ripped his side gate off the hinges! :ouch1:unfortunately we didn't exactly get away unscathed, despite being well secured the canopy on our lovely garden swing (only bought the year before last)is in tatters & the frame that holds the canopy is bent well out of shape...i think its a gonner tbh :doh:still i'd rather have that than anything wrong with the roof :love30:

Can you come here and do mine!?...lol...I will have to ask my OH to do something similar although I'm hoping things won't be as bad here again. The wind has picked up now though compared to this morning.

We've gone from total dark full on thunder & lightning with hail, to bright sunny day and now going back to dark :yikes:

Managed to get to the shops, flooded where it normally doesn't flood, but not flooded where it normally does.

Glad you've got out and got back safely Ziggy. That road looks on the point of becomimg a stream / river. I am listening to Jeremy Vine on R2 talking about this fascination many of us have with being close to that awesome power of a sea surge and storm and the desire to get an adrenalin rush but you and I both know it takes a mere second or two to suck you in and your chances of coming back to shore or being lucky enough to be rescued are minimal.
Please, don't do it, any of you. Just view the video clips on line,

I still remember watching a dog being taken by the sea from the harbour wall. The sea was like a boiling cauldron - nothing anyone could do.

I'm listening to that too. There was only about 8 inches of water running across the road down on the moor, but that was enough to sweep a van into the ditch. Water's got no where to go now yet still it rains [IMG]

Got flour, yeast, tinned food, tobacco & 8 gallons of wine, should be ok for a few days now :)

Very heavy rain here early on this morning, cleared by about 8am - took that opportunity to get the Christmas lights down from outside, and to be fair the remainder of the morning was bright and clear. About half twelve, the skies turned properly moody and very dark, then we were pummelled by very heavy rain and a couple of lightning flashes accompanied by loud crackles of thunder; fifteen minutes later, it was all over and its currently fairly still with light blue skies as the sun begins to fade for the day.

One thing I have noticed though, is the water that is standing in the dip in the patio - we often get a wee pool there when it rains, but it normally drains away fairly quickly; today, its just standing there, which suggests the ground is well and truly saturated.
