I'm just choosing sweet pea seeds and ideally would like to buy single colour packets. Can anyone recommend a single named variety they have grown that they felt was very highly scented? I'm a bit wary of buying to get a certain colour and ending up with hardly any scent. I'll probably buy a packet of a highly scented mix as well as a back up.

Some years ago I use to show sweet peas, some where scented and some not very much scent,The old varieties are the one's you want, but I'm not sure if they come in single pack varieties. If I where you I would have a Google to find some suppliers. The one that I dealt with a lot was Robert Bolton and son, they have a good web site and I always found then helpful if I contacted them with any problems.

I only ever grow specific colour Sweetpeas now (I prefer being able to specifically mix colours in a vase, and not have Heinz-Allsorts). Once I have found the most heavily scented variety I looks for seed from
      http://molesseeds.co.uk/flower_and_vegetable_seed_store_uk/Products_Sweet_Pea_1992.html
as they tend to be cheaper (packet size is large), and they seeds are free-postage (excluding peas, beans and green manure I think)

I plant a double row, but plant each colour on one side only (well, it wraps round the end when I get to the end of the row) so that when I pick them I get all of one colour picking up one side of the row, so that they are picked separate-colours, and then mixed (if at all) when the vase is arranged.

Well, you could try Sweet Pea "High Scent", or "Lady Turral", "Lord Nelson", "Painted Lady", "Black Knight", "Matucana":dunno::snork:

Thanks folks! Excellent suggestions there. Premier Seeds Direct on Ebay stocks all of these, with good instructions and descriptions as well.

One or two SP seed sites do organise the seeds by fragrance, link to one below . Like Kristen I don't buy the mixed packets of seeds , as one colour always seems to take over. I have bought my SP seeds from Premier for the last two years , no problems there ! :dbgrtmb:

They are the same price (i.e. per seed, by my calculation) as Moles seeds, but you only need to buy in packets of 40-ish seeds - rather than 10 grams (120 -ish seeds) from Moles. Bonus!

I can now vouch for Painted Lady having a fantastic scent.

Charlies Angels was one of my bankers when I was showing it made a good strong plant. We used to take all the flower buds of until 4 buds where showing then you could get flower heads with 4 to 5 blooms,9 in a vase looked lovely.
