I would love to be a fly on the wall when some of the numpties who parked their cars along the promenade roads ring their insurance companies. For the first time in my life, I think I would side with the insurers when they laugh their heads off. How hard can it be to drive your car 1/2 a mile or so to drier/higher land!?

The wind has picked up here now....looks like next doors pampas grass is in for another battering! Some of it usually ends up in our garden.

 

It's throwing it down now with strong gusts.

 

I used to work in an office directly overlooking the harbour wall at Staithes (a little fishing village). I saw so many rescues it was incredible, but interestingly, excluding the obvious fishing boats in trouble, the majority of the rescues involved tourists, who had not grown up next to the sea. In one case, at high tide, I saw something through the window that caused me to shout at my colleagues to summon help while I bolted outside to see if I could help. A man pushing a small child in a pushchair thought it would be a brilliant idea to push the pushchair down the wet, algae covered slipway. They're not called slipways for nowt. He and his kid just slid straight down the ramp into the sea. Lucky for them there were lots of passers-by who managed to grab the pair of them and haul them to safety straight away.
