You got a link? Google is giving me a company in Ontario - and I doubt that is the one you are thinking of!

@Sheal Being local I buy from them regularly (I bought some bare rooted cherry plums last Friday) and as I'm normally in that area every couple of weeks, if anybody was to 'pm' then I might be able to supply a pic of what the plants look like as those in the beds at the garden centre are (supposed to be) identical to those in the surrounding fields used to supply the mail order market.

      Thanks Scrungee. :)

I was checking out prices on Rosa Rugosa 'Roseraie de L'Hay' and this company has them for approx. a third of the price of others. I'm wondering if the plants are smaller than other suppliers because of the price. Of course I will have to add a shipping cost to that. Cants of Colchester's plants are £10.70 with shipping cost £4.95 but I know their plants are good (thanks to Kristen) I've ordered from them before.

I only want one plant to stand alone.

Ah, OK :) Buckingham Nurseries. Yup, I've used them - bought all my variegated hollies off them for my Maze because they were much cheaper than anywhere else. The plants were not big, but not titchy either, and my intention as to grow them on from Spring-to-Autumn before planting in the Autumn. The plants arrived in about 10cm pots I think (they were the height, and pot size, as described on their website - but most other places were selling 2L plants - taller, and more money too!)

I've bought a box full of this & that from them, added items to make an economical shipping size. All good plants, all of them in 9cm pots or thereabouts (again, as described on their website) so a bit on the small side for planting straight out, and I grew them on for a bit before planting - and saved myself a few bobo.

If you are buying a bare-root rose its probably not going to be much difference in size wherever you get it from is it? But having said that if you only want one or two then perhaps best to head for a decent sized plant of good quality.

Thanks for the info Kristen. I'll have a look at Buckingham Nurseries. A lot of places won't deliver to the island so I'll check that out first. :)

Giving a couple of examples, the http://www.hedging.co.uk/acatalog/product_10262.html#aPLUM7 I bought last week that were described as "2-3ft 60-90 cm" were all 3'6" high (and there were even taller ones towards the back) and the cider apple trees I bought several years ago were at least 50% taller than described online, and I've found everything else I've bought from them to be of a generous size.

Kristen, I don't know where my head was when reading your post, I wasn't putting two and two together when I replied. One and the same nursery of course!

Their website is impressive too and the plants look inviting.

As a side note about plant size, I ordered from Ebay and the advertised 3 foot privet arrived at just 2 foot tall. When I contacted the seller he said the 3 foot included the roots! I complained and was offered a refund on my postage.
