You are a good cook FC - I like your way of thinking it through.... and I love a ham based stock - so useful.
Very, very little goes to waste in our house too.

I hate waste of any variety, especially when it comes to food. The demise of the dishwasher has simply meant that we need to draw our belts in a wee bit for the next couple of months, but I know that we can still eat good, hearty and healthy food just by boxing clever with leftovers.

I guess I am of the 'old school' and got a GCSE or whatever it was called in Cookery ... because it was a mandatory subject when I was in secondary school (1959-63) ... in Luton that was ... :heehee:

Before we were retired I worked full time in rather high-flying jobs which included travel (as did t'other half) but I still maintained the house, the garden and cooked. I still don't know how to use a mobile phone correctly and do not know how to text ... but I am okay on the computer ... :dancy:

I happen to like cooking ... but at times now that I am retired and can afford to eat out several times a week we do so. However, I still love to cook my English and Mexican foods. T'other half is lucky to know where anything lives in the kitchen, be it food or utensils, bless him ... xx

I would like to know from the men of you who cook out there what your wife/partner does during the day that you have to go to work, I assume garden as you are on this forum and cook all/most of the meals.

So, I shall go away now and prepare my jacket potato and t'other half's pasta whilst he watches Judge Judy having finished watching the Simpsons ... :frown:

Nice. I love liver but t'other half can't stand it, so stepson and I usually have it when she's off on a girly night out. Liver curry is lovely!

What's that? Around here scrumping was when (as kids) we went raiding apples and other fruits from peoples gardens.

I can only really speak for my own circumstances Victoria, but its mostly borne out of necessity, and the rest out of my own preferences. I don't cook all the meals, Mrs C does her fair share too - a lot of it depends on what we are having, and who is home and when.

For the most part, its down to time constraints, and that is due to childcare. We are both up early in the morning, and I generally work anything from 0300-1500; Mrs C takes Little C to school, and then heads off to work herself - she starts just after 10am. I collect Little C from school, then head home and try to get a wee bit done (have a quick clean round, unload the dishwasher, get dinner started where needed etc etc), then at 5pm Little C & I head out to get Mrs C from her work, usually getting back in by just after 6pm.

Dinner is had, showers/baths are done, dishwasher is loaded (unless we dose off on the couch!), lunches are made for Mrs C & I for the following day, and then we have a couple of hours with the TV/PC before heading to bed to do it all again.

Mrs C has to work full time for no other reason than the extortionate cost of living around here - we simply couldn't afford to survive here otherwise.

                :heehee: ... small balls!

FC ... it's nice to know that you are a 'hands on' man although you have a demanding out-of-normal-hours job and I have nothing but praise for you ... :love30:

I hope she doesn't mind me saying so, but @Kandy I think she is sort of from the same school as me and irrespective of what we had to do in our working life, we STILL had the household chores to do without assistance, even though neither of us had children. There certainly was little time for R&R and you just got on with things.

Mrs W made a super pot of veg soup today. Our last butternut squash, carrot freshly excavated, some of our dried toms. Bought celery and onions, Five of our own garlic cloves, odds and sods of herbs and one chook stock cube and one veg stock cube.
It was just gorgeous. In fact if it wasn't now so near bed time I go and have another bowl of it.

                        Have you tried it BBQ'd?
Last year, one of my Uni friends invited us to a BBQ and served bbq'd liver: it was absolutely delicious :dbgrtmb:

Never tried liver curry ... I'll pop it on the menu.

Today is my turn to cook marinated chicken. Just one son and myself today and we're having a friendly competition over who cooks the best version. We had his the other day and it was very tasty, hence the challenge :heehee: Mind you, he's already accused me of "cheating" ... I put mine into marinate last night ;)

@Dave W your wife's soup sounds scrummy :dbgrtmb:

We are also having a (chosen) belt tightening challenge beginning next week @fat controller
With Mr "M" due to 'retire' from his current position in the next few years (and both lads at Uni), we're going to have a go at living off state pension. It'll be interesting to see how long Mr "M" lasts.
