Cabbages....no heart.....

    First time growing Cabbages and by now i'd have expected them to have bulked up a bit:dunno:i'm putting it down to soft ground but i really don't know....Any pointers please:dbgrtmb:

    Shame - they look lovely and healthy. If all else fails maybe you could pretend they were spring greens?

        Oh dear, January King should have hearted up by now - still it will be good to eat as spring greens as Madahhlia says :)

        They need a long run to get going, sown in April and transplanted before mid-summer to have a chance.

          Hiya Loli.
          I'd have thought mid July would be ok. I grew them a couple of years ago, and they made fairly rapid progress. In fact, they got too big for the spacings I'd allowed so became a bit overcrowded:redface: I don't know if it helps, but I always put in composted manure on my designated Brassica bed a few months prior to planting, always gives me good results:blue thumb:

            Should be OK 'just' by mid-July. The other thing is to ensure they are really well trodden in, so maybe it's your soft ground.
