I'll be growing tomatoes for the first time so having any tomato on my plants whatever size will be fine by me but it was really good reading last years thread and picking up tips so I hope there'll be another comp this year. I may enter next year when I've got more experience. :blue thumb:

Why not enter anyway, you'll be kicking yourself if you get a big one and aren't in the comp, we're not taking late entries this year.

I think the rules (where there any?) were rather deficient in previous years

In my opinion (but trying to keep things as simple as possible) we need:

                        1) It be re-named the heaviest tomato competition (as it's previously been judged on weight).

                        1) An end date for the competition and I suggest it's the last day of the Malvern Autumn Show 2014, the 28th of September 2014 http://www.threecounties.co.uk/malvernautumn/ (it should be interesting to compare our efforts with the UK's giant tomato growers). Tomatoes don't get heavier as they get older and ripen, they actually lose weight, so it's best to pick when they start to 'blush' meaning you've achieved the best weight plus any seeds saved after leaving to completely ripen will be viable. So tomatoes can be weighed and entered at any time before the end date.

                        3) A pic be posted showing the girth of the tomato in progress (as most of us have done previously) and similar to the heaviest onion competition. Perhaps a date could be set for this as the 'last entry date'.

                        4) Another (final) pic on the scales (as virtually everybody has previously submitted).

@Jenny has kindly agreed to send me some tom seeds... They are not the biggest varieties. And i am growing toms for the first time... So not too sure if i will be able to grow any... Having a compitition sounds great fun.. so i am in! Yoohoo
Should we do a smallest tomato challenge too.. lol.. for novices like me..
