I saw a Wren in the garden yesterday but haven't been around today to see if it reappeared.

Today was a slightly weird day in the garden. The weather started off sunny with a slight breeze and the birds were singing away and then it would go quiet and all the birds would disappear for an hour or so. Then they would reappear and there would be bird calls and bodies flitting all over for an hour and then they would disappear again. This repeated itself all day but I couldn't see a reason for it. However, I did manage to get some shots of visitors to the Fat Ball Feeder and the garden today.:snork:

The birds seem to like to use the 10' conifer as an observation post before flying down.

I'm not sure, Jenny, to be honest. I have a fair amount of Blackbirds in the Garden and the first thing you hear is them scalding you as you dare to come into their garden!!:heehee: There's several of these speckled birds around :coffee: I've got some reasonable shots of the Blackbirds eyeing me up while I was taking shots of them.:snork:

Thanks Yvonne. I like the Sparrows as they always sound cheering when they're chattering away. They suffered a decline in the past but now seem to be coming back in numbers and that can't be bad. Blackbirds also seem to have declined in numbers but they too seem to be coming back. They quite a bold bird and my cats will slink away when being scolded by them for getting too close:heehee: They love the Sultanas I put at the base of the main bird bath!! All birds, except the Magpie, are welcome in the garden.

Ditto Ditto!!! You have just reminded me to get more sultanas. I got to the point when I only ever saw sparrows abroad, but I am seeing the odd one in the garden. Blackbirds are regular visitors, I also get Magpies which I don't like at all after coming across a small group pecking a baby rabbit to death. That said when one landed in my garden with a broken wing, I still took it to the vet.

The Magpie is a very successful predator and scavenger and the population seems to have exploded in Cheshire. They will, given the chance, dominate the neighbourhood but they don't like the fact that there are two cats almost always in the garden and tend to stay away. I'm not a fan of them but I would certainly not harm them as they are part of the ecology just like the Sparrows!!

Could be juvenile female, from a late brood possibly.
