Just planted a couple of Paulownia trees and I am now worried that they might be harmed by impending frost as we have a long way to go before spring. Any ideas as to which "coat" would suit them please?

They should be totally hardy if grown in the UK.
You dont say how big they are, you could get some die back if the wood didn't ripen properly back in the autumn.

I've got a bale of straw I am going to use to put around my tender plants if there is a proper hard frost predicted. Whatever you use you need to keep it dry, straw/hay is worse than useless if it become sodden, so it needs a plastic or a large upturned bucket to throw off the rain. In previous years I've used loft insulation wrapped around using fleece, but again it does get wet if you're not careful.

Unless we get some real cold arctic air, hope we dont, I dont think they will be bothered.
As I say you might get the top buds die, but it should shoot away from lower down and quickly make up the loss.
