... the above photo was summer 2011, I grew 6 ft Walking Stick Cabbages amongst exotic plants, most people didn't notice them amongst bananas, cannas and cordylines :)

This is an interesting thread as I've been pondering growing these for the time time this year, good to see which varieties are recommended.

Sorry to go off topic a tad, but am also growing Flowering Sprout Petit Posy this year for the first time, apparently a cross between Kale and Brussel Sprouts, supposedly tasty, versatile and provides winter greens. Anyone grown these before?

            Cheers
            GG

@JWK, can you eat the walking stick cabbages? I quite fancy growing them.
@Lolimac, did you find out the name of that purple curly kale?

I grew them for a couple of years and whilst they grew pretty tall, like sprouts, they never produced much for us to eat. We had a few leaves off them which were OK so I gave up growing them. I will be interested to see how you get on GG, as they sound promising.

They are really only for sheep :) Ask @Zigs , he reckons they are good for his long silky hair. Joking aside the young leaves were edible as greens, mine grew to over 10ft in the end so you can imagine they are pretty tough and woody, I only grew it for the GC competition:

They need a lot of space Madhhalia, better to grow an ordinary Kale variety for practical reasons.

Yep, good for your wool but the clue is in the name really, bit like the Crow Bar Cucumber, not something you'd really grow to eat.

Nice pic JWK! So Kale is a winter crop then? I think I've made a mistake here.
