        Sunny day and chilly, warm in the sun though.
        The Witch Hazel scent strong, Daff February Gold probably a week away from flowering.

          Bought my last lot of Box this week to finish the top left corner. I really need to improve the drainage around the edge of the path as at best its slow to drain at worst (this winter) water sticks around for a while so i bought a big bag of Rotten Manure, this stuff is not too fine and has a lot of bulk matter to it. I took out the top layer of wet claggy soil, broke up the bottom and shoved loads of the stuff in the trench, then filled with a bit of the removed soil, then forked. I will leave now for a month, maybe two to settle then hopefully it will give the new Box plants a better start. It was amazing that even by digging down 6 inches, the grey clay was dry but on top, water.

          Also mulched the Rhodo, Witch Hazel, Magnolia and Hibiscus.

              Dig it up???? Well, I like the Mahonia as it flowers during the Winter and provide food for the insects and colour so if I was going to dig it up I'd replant it somewhere else:dunno::heehee:

              Mahonia "Soft Caress" ... that's one I want :)

              "Charity" or the like ... not sure. They grow a bit vertical, so not very branched. Evergreen, so not going to look like twigs in Winter. Yellow flowers in Winter (for several weeks) so make a contribution when not much else is in flower, just "not very exciting" ...

                Well, there are usually two varieties available, Aquifolium and Japonica, Mr G. Both are cheap enough to buy and they're both tough plants. They'll grow in shade and poor soil, Aquifolium will flower in March onwards and can be used as a low hedge while Japonica [I have one] will flower in December onwards and grow up to 6'. Both are good plants and good additions to a garden but like everything it's a personal choice......me?, I like the Japonica.:coffee:
