    Hiya Loli:)

I grew them many years ago. As I recall, they were nice, but nothing special. I think though that growing conditions and soil type can have quite an effect on flavour. In the main, Arran Pilot always gives me good results, regarding flavour:blue thumb:

My recollection too. We grew them, must be 5 years ago now, and have not grown them since.

Husbandry, soil, and personal preference counts for lots when growing spuds, so my advice would be to buy seed potatoes loose and grow, say, 5-each of any variety you think you might like, and then carefully label them and have a tasting session when they are ready for harvesting. Grow the ones that do well, and you like, for ever after :)

For me it is Rocket (not that enamoured with it, but it is very very Early, I grow just one bag of them for super-early), Arran Pilot for all our early-bags and first early outside, Charlotte (a couple of bags, and our second-early crop outside) and Pink Fir Apple (which we only grow outside, but start harvesting quite early, and we also find that they store well too)

There is probably something wrong with me, but I think a spud is a spud.
You get earlies and maincrop etc.
But unless its Pink Fir Apple I cant see the point in growing them.

Home grown always taste the same as shop bought as far as I'm concerned.:)

No I just think you convince yourselves they taste better because you grew them, especially when it comes to maincrop.
As to earlies, well I cant see the point in them, if you dig too early they taste watery and yuccy, if you dig too late, the ones in the shop are likely to be better.:);)

Narr, just go buy some decent ones in the shop.
These days you can buy by variety anyway, its only the obscure ones you cant get and most are obscure for a reason, ie. they aint worth growing.

Sorry Pete, can't agree with that. It's the highlight of my growing season, digging up those globes of lusciousness and whopping them in the pan, served up with a bit of butter, yummy. I can honestly say that I've never tasted anything from the supermarket that compares. You're dead right though about maincrop:blue thumb:
