Hi Sumbody .Never chitted SPs . They will germinate in 7 to 20 days . If you can , move them some where cooler after germination. A shed with a window or an unheated room this helps to develop the roots . When they have 4 pairs of leaves pinch the plant above the third set , to help them bush up.:dbgrtmb:

Moved a conifer, had to find a temporary home for some native hedging, moved some ferns, did a bit more clearing.
Now shouting at tv and England's 'performance' in rugby. Good grief.

The usual Saturday job as the whole garden is just to wet to do anything in borders etc I will do more harm to soil structure, so bird feeders cleaned and washed and then re filled and slug hunting in the greenhouse only found two this time so looks like I am winning

Did some tidying up in the front garden, mostly weeding and lifting leaves, and pruned the roses out there. The older hellebores are absolutely stunning but the the ones I put in last year look a bit pathetic. I don't pay enough attention to the front and should have divided the heucheras last autumn, they look very sorry for themselves but I've tidied them up as best I could for now. Really must come up with a more structured plan for planting and maintenance out front and maybe even stick to it!

I sowed some Lily seeds last year, from a single Lilium regale flower that I missed deadheading in Summer of 2012. Potted them up (from original seed tray) today - that came to 360 plants :hate-shocked: If they all make it to flowering size the "Blue and White" border is going to look pretty spectacular in July!

I was surprised how much root the little bulbs had on them, I had thought transplanting them at this time of the year they would just be "dormant bulbs" - like the ones I buy loose. Strikes me that planting them out, early Spring 2015, direct from their pots, roots-and-all they should establish much more quickly then bare-bulbs would do?

This is what they looked like back in April 2013

Decided to get some Dahlia tubers lifted, and was quite amazed at the size of some of them, and all different shapes and colours.

I have a few that are a single tuber about the size of a medium potato, others that have loads of long thick fingers, others that are like loads of baby potatoes and some that are deep red in colour. I've washed them off, and they are sat in seed trays in the outhouse where it is cool to dry off before I dust them with sulphur.

Some of the wee bulb bits of the tubers fell/broke off the clusters as I was cleaning them - are these worth keeping or will they come to now't?

Apart from feeding the birds, watching Sarafi have a mad half hour and picking up lots of fallen branches, I dug up two well established clematis because the tree they had been climbing for the last six or seven years (or more) has fallen down.

I've now moved them to a laburnum tree nearby. That's about all I could manage so chicken wiring the tree trunk will have to wait for another time.

Just had a good snoop around the garden , plants are starting to bud , bulbs everywhere popping up.

Tree peonies covered in big fat red buds, everything is sodden, apart from that "nowt else".

I just had to get outside and do something :)
I know it's the wrong time of year but I've trimmed the conifers back as far as I can reach (need some ladders from work)
Trimmed and tidied up the privet hedges, looks a lot better now.
Need to have a bonfire soon.
Potted about in the GH, was lovely and warm in there 18'c

In wandering around today I noticed that the Hydrangea buds are fat, and on a couple of varieties they have already broken and are in leaf. I'll need to watch out for them if we get a cold snap.

Had a little mooch about outside but didn't stay there long as the wind was really chilly. The winter aconites are starting to flower as are the snowdrops. I've been keeping my eye on the russian snowdrops and now one has started to show. :dancy: The anemones are also up and some alliums. Can't wait for more flowers. :)

Saw some when walking down the lane today, which was a nice surprise. Meant to have a look in the garden when I got back - but forgot! Tomorrow then ... if I remember!
