    Well I might be cynical..:scratch::th scifD36:

With all the damage done over the last few months, will Mr Cameron et al be giving
the country it's own multi million hand out?

Perhaps we should go to India,China and any other country we have helped,
    cap in hand.

I know these people have their own problems, but I think we should now look after our own.

It seems we are always shelling out to the EU but never seeming to get anything back when we are up against it.

      Cheers, Tony.

If I recall correctly, and I very well may not, the UK does give aid to area affected by disaster.

I just hope they get their act together on the environment agency and planning to try and avoid this happening

Said on the news that the PM is making funds available for flood victims, can't find a link to it though.

One MP is going to the EU for funding for Somerset, the same as when Tewkesbury got flooded, weather he'll get any money is another matter, but i hope he does

I think it was on PMQs today and was £10 million for Somerset and £90 million for elsewhere (the South/South East).

EDIT: I missed another source of funding as there's also 50% of the proceeds from this jumble sale http://www.westerngazette.co.uk/Jum...ey-flood-hit/story-20564485-detail/story.html

So we can buy 10 million buckets from poundland and each scoop up a bit of the flood and keep it in the shed for when its drier :)

The funds he's promised are for NEXT YEAR. If I'm not mistaken, that happens to be an election year.

What is truly scary about that comment @Zigs is that it will almost certainly be infinitely more sensible than what this bunch of twonks come up with!

                  Shock!
Err no, not really. To be fair it will take at least that long to put the consultation process out to tender. Only once that process has been done and the account duly settled can the remainder of this "windfall" be spent on clearing a couple of ditches!

Does anybody want to create a "will the flooding of the Somerset Levels be resolved by May 2015 poll?

True. But this also begs a question. If there is so little expertise within government that external, private companies have to be drafted in to do everything from planning, right through to completion, then what exactly are these people for?

In the private sector, if a manager is found to be unable to manage, he gets fired. Simples.

If my boss says to me, "CL1, please build me a system that meets this requirement", and I turn round and say "but boss, first I need a couple of million quid plus a spare year just to think about it, and then I think I'll pay someone else, using your money, to do all of the actual work, while I sit here with my feet up", imagine how fast I'd be shown the door. Yet this is exactly what happens in government.

But that's exactly what happens in the public sector. They employ IT 'project managers' on huge salaries who can't provide any advice, costings, etc. without employing external consultants.
