Did anyone see the news this evening? I do like Prince Charles. I know he gets some stick, but like his dad, he speaks his mind (albeit slightly more tactfully).

He totally shamed the government by publicly stating that 'the tragedy is that nothing has been done for so long'. And when asked a direct question if he thought the environment agency was wrong, he very publicly answered a very diplomatic Yes along the lines of "you may think so but I couldn't possibly say".

Yeah, but we all know what he's thinking!!! The Chairman of the Environmental Agency who has been making comments like "we will have to choose whether to protect Towns or the countryside" hasn't even been to the flooded area. His job is a 3 day week and for that he gets £90,000 a year............which would be better spent on dredging and maintenance of our rivers. That job is only one of other jobs he has........jobs for the boys is still prevalent.:coffee:

Good news! At last the government is actually doing something to help those on the Somerset Levels who've been affected by the floods. HMRC are allowing anybody flooded a bit more time to submit their self assessment tax returns.

The Government is all heart, Scrungee, that made tears come to my eyes.......or it could have been the fact that I dropped a weight on my foot.:cry3::heehee: They've made so many blunders with the 0845 emergency advice number [which contained useless information anyway] with profits going to a private company as an example. Why don't they think before making comments that carry no real sympathy and basically say it will be weeks before they consider any viable solutions due to the financial budget and charging flooded people in crisis for "advice".

I love how today the government are at least pretending to care for the first time. I'm sure its just pure coincidence that this happened the day after prince Charles publicly had a go at them.

But, Clueless, Mr Cameron stated quite categorically that the Government hasn't been slow in responding and that Owen Paterson is doing an excellent job and has his full confidence, along with Lord Smith [Chairman of the EA] who hasn't even been down to the floods but has reached a decision on future plans to deal with flooding...............don't you believe him???!!!:lunapic 130165696578242 5:

Somerset is live on the news now. The reporter that's there is called Dan Rivers. When I first heard him being introduced, I thought they said "down rivers". Appropriate in a sad sort of way.

Things haven't been great weather wise up here in Scotland but nothing like what poor Somerset is experiencing. I was at school in Street many moons ago and have very fond memories of Somerset. Having had the misfortune of being extremely badly flooded in a previous house I can only sympathise with the poor souls who have recently had their homes flooded. Do you know how many homes have been flooded Zigs? The joys of dealing with insurance companies to look forward to....oh boy! and that's presuming people have been able to afford/have insurance.
From your amazing photos it is easy to see how the myth about Christ landing by boat at the Tor and planting his staff which then promptly grew into a tree could have been started.

Sadly, folks are becoming resigned to the fact that Mother Nature will dictate events and are leaving their homes. It's breaking my heart today,

Lord Smith went into the flood area today and showed how aloof and totally out of touch he is as he only spoke to some people in "controlled conditions" [which smacks of Russian tactics] and he was not happy with the Media circus following him around. He literally had to be forced to speak to one resident who although angry spoke to him forcefully but politely. From Lord Smith's reaction to being spoken to by someone having to face the reality of being flooded out of his home you could tell he wasn't listening and definitely not happy to be cornered. Why have we got people like that in charge?.......our political "old boys" system is still alive and kicking it would seem.:gaah:
