I believe I already know. You gave us a clue in another thread maybe a month or two ago.

Best not. My missus would go mad. She doesn't like us spilling things if we can help it.

You were worried about the power going off to your fridge, I said I wouldn't worry because the outside temperature was about fridge temp at the moment, you said it was a bit too warm and you need to achieve a very specific temperature range....

Thanks Yvonne, but I'm looking for something that isn't powered by electricity as I need to use it during power cuts. All I can find is something that plugs into a car cigarette lighter socket, but the temperatures on those are erratic. I need to maintain a temperature of between 2-8C or it renders my medication useless, it also has to be kept out of daylight until used.

Clueless you are right of course. :) At the moment during a power cut I have to return the medicine to the box it's delivered in surrounded by seven large ice packs, that's okay until they start to thaw out and I can't re-freeze them with the power off.

@Sheal, you need to think laterally. Have a search for low voltage beer coolers.

There are two common kinds. The conventional compressor kind, and then there's the solid state ones that use a 'peltier heat pump' (a magic phenomenon that exploits quantum physics - for real).

This first one I found uses both tricks. Compressor when on mains, falling back to thermo-electric when on 12V DC (such as from a car battery):

That's more like it, thanks Yvonne. I'll look into it a bit more as I can't see a price anywhere and it looks as if it's produced in China.....a little worrying. :)

Although I'm not usually one to talk about my health here on GC, you are all probably guessing at the moment. A year ago after four years of tests I was diagnosed with two of the more unusual forms of arthritis and as of a few months ago I was prescribed permanent injections (which I have to inject myself) of a very expensive drug to keep it in remission as it's inoperable, although not life threatening.

The reason for this alternatively powered box/fridge is because of the cost of the medication. I need it not only for power cuts but if I need to travel away from home too.

Thanks everyone for your help. :dbgrtmb:

Clueless....I hadn't even considered looking at caravan camping gear. The cool type boxes are a good idea. :)

There's a lot of ideas and I'll way them all up, thank you all. What does surprise me is that this sort of info hasn't been provided by the company that supplies my medicine, but there again I haven't asked either.
