I notice that a clump of bergenias, and maybe a few other things, has got irregular nibbles out of the leaf edges. Tell me it's not vine weevil! They are in the ground outside, never had a ground infestation before.

Piccy? Sounds like them as leaf cutters tend to be regular in shape. Dig about to see if there's and grubs or beetles

have they just appeared ? or do you think from last year as they are quite tough leaves , no leaf cutter bees about yet , but I have a feeling they would be too tough for them anyway to have a go at , I have had vine weevil grubs in the pots of some heuchera I think early December but I have sorted that out now , I doubt in the adults are on the move yet so leaves would be untouched with the grubs.

I would say slugs this time of year but also caterpillars, I agree with Loofah have a good nose about

Looked at a few web pages, seems like vine weevil like bergenias (amongst many other things).

Aaargh, can't cope, it's going have to be the Provado.

Bet everything will survive this mild winter and the garden will be decimated come May.

they do ie grubs in the soil around the roots but I would be surprised if mobile and eating the leaves at this time of year.

Still think caterpillar like "Fern " found the other week on her clematis.
