What to do with new grape/gooseberry plant before I plant at allotment at the weekend?

Evening all,

I have just bought 2 gooseberry plants & 1 grape plant and I was wondering what best to do with them whilst I wait to plant them down at the allotment at the weekend?

Shall I keep them in the porch as it is colder (& sheltered) as opposed to warmer areas of the house? Shall I plant them in pots (but I would have to carry the heavier load) and leave them outside?

Keep wet and in the cool porch sounds ideal but not frosty , they will be fine for planting at the weekend

The gooseberries already have some nice lush green growth and grape has a few leaves

Sorry to say , but you dont want any new growth showing, sounds as if you bought them in a shop and the warmth has brought them on to early , you will need to fleece them to stop the frost killing all the new growth once you have planted them out.

This is why I post on forums - as a newbie I would have been disheartened if I killed them off!

With the fleece are there any guidelines/things to avoid or can I simply wrap them up quite tight (obv not strangling the plant)

Loosely (as you dont want to damage the new growth) but you don't want a flag effect or they may end up on the next plot with wind we are having .
