The whole Britpop thing seemed to be dominated by the media hyped Blur/Oasis spat. For me Blur were far better and by the album 13 in 1999 they were at their best...............

One of my other favourites was Pulp....................

Oooh Andy, it felt like Summer was here as I sat listening to these as I was knitting.
Sorry, No 9 = Rook is not one of my favourite bird songs but
No 16 = Nightingale most definitely is my favourite..
and the pheasant in the background was lovely too,
        Jenny

This certainly won't appeal to many of you :). You need to be a fan of the blues and jazz.

Bessie Smith became the biggest selling blues/jazz singer on the 'black' circuit in the 1920's. She made well over 100 recordings with Columbia records and performed with a lot of very famous musicians. Her first record sold 750,000 copies! Sadly, she died in a car crash in 1937.

This recording also had Benny Goodman and Jack Teagarden in the band.

I've always liked John Denver and it was sad that he died in the plane crash.

A few weeks ago I posted some songs by the Chad Mitchell Trio and mentioned that the young John Denver joined the Chad Mitchell trio in 1965 when Chad left the group.

The trio were well known folk singers but also became famous for their satirical, anti-war and civil rights songs. They were the first people to record songs such as 'Blowing in the Wind', 'Where Have All The Flowers Gone?', 'Jet Plane', 'The First Time' and 'you Were On My Mind' .

In 1987 they had a reunion and this is a recording of the show. You need to be a folk song fan for this :) and it's good to be playing whilst working on the computer. Apart from doing part of the intro and commentary, John Denver doesn't come into the video for 52 minutes.
