Mulberry tree

I have always wanted a mulberry tree. There is one in a garden in the City of London, which is laden with fruit every year, but so far the 2 I have planted over the years have not survived more than a couple of years in rural Shropshire. I'm hoping third time lucky for my 65 th birthday! Does anyone have any recommended suppliers or tips for success?

I do have one that is 7 years old which I have grown from a two foot bush and is now 8ft high and must easily be the same in width.
I have found it slow growing and I am still waiting for the 1st fruit , I think you have to get the growing conditions right to start off with. They like a deep soil which drains well and holds the water , so if on clay or chalk soils you would have to really prep the soil and dig out a generous 6 feet circle and as deep as you can add lots of compost and well rotted manure , I have been told best planted in the spring and to stake the tree straight away.

Read's Nursery sell one called "Chelsea" that they say fruits young, however I thought that Chelsea referred to the Physic Gardens where the one originating from King James I was, and all that Chelsea means is that it is an ancestor of that ancient tree ... "King James I" or "Chelsea" are offered by most nurseries and no mention of it fruiting "young" so WhatDoIKnow eh?!

at one garden center a couple of years ago they had a "King James" and I thought the leaf a different shape to mine probably lots grown from seed and with that have minor variations , my brother had two in his garden in " Richmond London" amazing trees so I always wanted one , plus he had special mulberry nets to collect the fruit as it fell , looked like a old sheet I told him

I have a public garden not far from here they have a mini orchard would be the best way to describe with notices "keep off the trees" liable to break .

Mine looks great and is steadily growing and looks really healthy , I thought it would be a waiting game with something that lives a very long time

I noticed the part of growing in a pot , probably why mine hasn't fruited as it does occupy its own space with very little competition

I planted a couple of White Mulberries, either side of a path junction, specifically because they don't fruit (much) - the fallen fruit makes a right mess, and stains clothes etc. Maybe I'll use it to grow some silk instead? (Although I have worked on a Silk farm, feeding the worms with coppiced [White] Mulberry leaves, and they don't have Honk!)
