A good evening to you all! :-)

Last Thursday I built a summerhouse, and today I gave it 2 coats of paint. It needs another 2 or 3 and the window frames painted.

Do you think that the doors look ok painted cream? I don't want it all black, but I am considering changing the cream to a grey? What do you rek?

The cream is going to distract the eye from your plants during the summer as it distracts the eye now. Another colour would be better in my opinion.

Sorry, I'm not a fan of the white door frames. I don't think it works with the rest of the colour scheme.

I think I'd be tempted to go for black gloss, or a pale blue, grey or green.

I'd be inclined to paint them a softer colour, as suggested above, but have a little think about the corner post being black as well.

Sorry Al n, the cream makes the doors look like an afterthought. The colour needs to be more subtle. I think a mid to dark green which will help it blend into the garden. :)

I'd go for a blue personally a dark on. I think whatever colour you pick it will stand out because of the black is a receding colour. Considering it's a summerhouse that you want people to see and be a feature, why paint it a receding colour like the fencing? So many people do this and I've never understood why.

I would suggest planting around the front or on the summerhouse itself too to break down the black.

thanks for all you input, its very well recieved. its great to have others opinions too! :-)

its not finished yet, re the planting. lots to do. have the plants on standby in the order of sambucus, fatsia, bamboo, trachycarpus, washingtonia etc.... so some of the structure will be hidden. i think i'm erring on a sage green or similar for the doors, as i think the cream is a bit too stark.

With corner post black. I actually like the contrasting door colour but do want to see some planting around the base to break it up a bit. Looks like you also need to paint the inside around the windows?

                      thanks for that :blue thumb:

yep, its not finished yet, still need to paint the window surrounds, door shuts, thresholds etc.....:dbgrtmb:

it also needs insulating, boarding, flooring, so a nice couple of weekends to do it.

I agree with Loofah and like the contrasting doors. Isn't this the same colour scheme as your fences?
