What Jobs are we doing in the Garden today 2014..

Was about to ask how you keep track of all the bulbs you plant..lol

 

Yesterday did a bit of pricking out and potting on in the GH ,more of the same today.....Why do they never make GH's big enough

 

Yesterday I sorted out the buddleias, and did some general tidying. The smaller raised bed looks much better now. I planted some Poundland Miribilis Jalapa tubers in a pot. The instructions on the packet said plant them between January and May but when I checked online I found conflicting information saying I should have planted them out after the last frost. I'm now not sure whether I should bring them inside (finding room is a problem!) or whether I can get away with wrapping the pot in bubblewrap if a frost is forecast and if I can do this, should I just wrap it up after shoots have appeared?

 

Last few days have been preparing my veg raised beds with forking in the manure.
Made myself a nice little polytunnel with bits and pieces from the shed - amazing what you can do with some short sturdy bamboo, some lengths of climaflex pipe lagging I'd spare and some sturdy plastic. Works a treat and has brought on my lettuce nicely in the snug interior.
Been shifting about some misplaced perennials.
Got my broad beans on the go in the propagator.

Lovely weather here, mild and sunnyish so it's been really grand being out in the garden and getting dirty.

Fern, as long as you've got somewhere frost free/sheltered for them they should be okay. If they have to stay outside then I'd suggest fleece or bubble wrap.

 

Put a few (ok quite a lot) of anenome bulbs in beds and potted up some strawberries. Have a lot of seedlings coming through and am itching to pot them up but really need to leave them just a tad longer.

Same here LIF ,it's hard to resist isn't it....

 

I have been replacing fencing and I can't find one bit of me that doesn't ache! Long hot soak in the bath for me, I think.

 

Top dressed a few more pots and did some more tidying until it started throwing it down. One minute the sky is blue and the next there's dark grey cloud and rain. Spotted a couple more ladybirds too.

 

Pruned the Roses and a bit if tidying round the pond...got my usual scare from Mr frog...Why do they always jump directly at you....noticed plenty of nettles just coming up....(go get your gloves....naah if i'm really careful and get them right at the base they'll come out easy enough...) should have got my gloves.....so with hands that felt like pin cushions went in the GH and did some sowing....Sweet peas,Laurentia,Nicotiana Langsdorfii,Rudbeckia ....checked on other seedlings.....now nearly run out of space already

 

Potted up my Eucomis John innes no 3 with added perlite and a hand full of multi purpose compost all mixed together before putting in the pots , swell gell in the bottom with slow release fertilizer , crocked the bottom first , 3 different varieties just waiting for "pink Gin " to arrive. I have my 1st flower on Kogo no mai
