Spruce's honey bees

Please Spruce, what flowers are producing enough pollen for them to risk a flight out for?
They must be a bit feeble and out of practice surely?
So happy for you and them that they have come through all that recent dreadful weather ,

I'm glad things are looking good and it's good that the bad weather hasn't affected them like Jenny says. I'll look forward to reading all about your new hives then as the year progresses.

 

With this weather i'm surprised you've not needed Fish guards.

 

Spruce, I 've just had a closer look of the hellebores and daffodiliys... they have nice open stamens and probably pollen don't they?

I will have a nose , and see what they said to be honest I read a report last year about the bumble bees you can buy in a box that the commercial growers use to pollinate tomatoes from abroad , that are causing most of the disease as native colony in those area suffer the most as they escape from the greenhouses.

As usual its a combination of things .....habitat loss being the biggest

Hi All,

Popped down to check on them outside the hives as still to cold to open them up as I may chill all the larvae if I did, both hives all out and about flying collecting lots of pollen so still looking good hopefully the queen's have come back into laying eggs.

A lot of beepers are expecting early swarms this year due to the mild weather, so may have to check earlier than normal.

I've shared it on Bookface, along with one of my notorious rants.

What people need to realise, as I'm sure everyone on here does, being a gardening forum and all, but friends on Facebook might not, is that this is not only a tree hugging hippy conservation matter, this is also about long term food security. Bees, as we know, are very important pollinators.

I wonder if the execs at Bayer like a nice slice of apple pie or a nice glass of scrumpy on a sunny sunday afternoon in the garden.
