Anyone got one of these and willing to share experiences?

Still going round the houses on new car options and this seems to be in the running from the reviews and stuff I've seen. Am stepping up the research as my old faithful with 90k on the clock is getting a bit doddery and a slippy clutch.

    Cheers
    GG

Awww, bless - I am no expert, just a bit of a petrol-head

Skoda Fabia's are great wee motors - Jack has one (a VRS too, if memory serves), and I am sure he loves it; my mum had two in the past, only getting the second one after some eejit managed to hit her first one. She has now moved over to Ford, but that is simply because she needed something that was high up and could take a wheelchair, so the Grand C-Max fitted the bill.

Anyway, back to the Fabia - rock solid build quality (even better than the parent VW in many cases), dealers seem to be generally good, and loads of advice to be had from owners forums (I am a member of one of the best if it helps - happy to name them on here as long as the mods are OK with that (@Zigs?)

        What variant are you considering?

I'd have one. A lad work has one and he seems happy with it, and as we both do much of the same route to and from work, I've seen that his car can pop along a bit when it wants to.

        As I see it;

There are faster cars, more economical cars and much better looking cars, but few as well built and generally as reliable. Every couple of years it'll need front wishbone bushes (they are truly appalling pieces of tat, lord knows what they were thinking when they were signed off), the ABS control unit will probably fail at some point, and the electric windows will fall apart in a tangled mess of cables, but apart from that it is generally reliable.
You will not get the urge to get up at 5am on a Sunday seeking out drivers roads 'cos it's dull. But it is reliable.

It will also hold its value well. Probably because it's reliable!

I'm confused, you've just totally described the Vauxhall Vectra, apart from one word that you used, "reliable".

I thought we were on about the Skoda Fabia.

I have had Fabia's since the first new builds based on the VW

I have never had a problem, slow and trundling, well mine was! at 130mph on the Nurburgring, but back in the UK it is as fast as you would need it to be

The main niggle (that I have not had, is water in the door cards, but it is an easy sealant fix)

I started with the 1.9 TDI excellence, then upgraded to the 1.9 TDI VRS 134BHP now the 1.9TDI VRS 184 BHP special edition, that is now six years old good as new after the compulsory re-spray,)
The new Skoda Fabia VRS's are 1.4 Petrol and they FLY, Still excellent build quality

                    Just the more common models.

Lost count of the window regulators that I've done in the last couple of years. To be fair, it's an issue with a lot of VAG models and not just the Fabia. But the front bushes are a weak spot - maybe they're uprated on the VR models?

I've only driven one VRS and it did indeed FLY!
But............compared to my old Alfasud ti or any of my Pug 205 Gti's it was not as good a drivers car. Infinitely better car day to day though, I have no doubt of that.

Compared to most of the crap on the market now that is reliable! Niggles for sure, but the chances of a Fabia breaking down or not starting are really low.

@longk - to be fair, the Alfasud ti was almost a disposable car, so no wonder a Fabia would be a better everyday car
