Zigs What are all the excavators doing in the 3rd pic, is it on going ground stabilisation works or something caused by rains/storm damage?

They've been putting those big concrete sea walls in for months now, went to have a look to see if they'd survived the storms, seem to have fared well :)

Has the French sand they imported at great expense stood the test of the wind, waves and tides?

              Cheers, Tony.

They've put new sea walls in here at Redcar, but a slightly different design. I think they're excellent. They're like steps, so in nice weather people can sit on them. But there's gaps about half an inch at the back of each step, such that when there's a storm on, the waves aren't belting full force at the wall, the force is sort of distributed over the steps and the gaps allow the water to sort of drain off faster, with the net effect being like a sort of sea version of a big muffler, breaking up the force over a much greater effective area.

This pic shows the ground stabilisation works above the sea wall at the far left hand side.
