They're over the village all day, every day, nearly always at my plot and if I go to the right place about 10 mins walk away at the end of the day I've seen up to 35 there. I sometimes see the shadow of one over my garden on my laptop screen.

Superb bird Scrungee, I was wondering as they were originally reintroduced, whether in time (unless they are artificially fed as in Wales) they will become overcrowded and move out to a wider area.

I fish every year for two weeks in Rutland, Peterborough, Leicestershire, Cambridgeshire, Suffolk and Norfolk, Strongy and I've seen the Red Kites in all of those counties, so far, bar Suffolk and Cambridgeshire, so they are breeding successfully and spreading. Some years back I probably only saw them in Rutland, Peterborough and Leicestershire so they're coming along pretty fast.:coffee::snork::hapydancsmil:

I was thinking of the number specifically in Scrungee's locality as normally these Kites would have a large territory. Having so many in a small area along with Buzzards and possibly, Sparrowhawks, I imagine would decimate the smaller bird and Rabbit population.

I know how far they have spread so far but it isn't far enough!! They are still a rarity in most of Dorset.
          Jealous, me?

Well, they are primarily a Scavenger, although will take anything from a earthworm upwards if given the opportunity. I'm a great believer in Nature balancing things out and it's happened before where a predator population has exploded due to the abundance of prey and then declined when it's food source was depleted. The only exception to that, at the moment, seems to be the Magpie.:coffee::snork:

Not much at Upton Country Park today apart from this smart male Pintail.

Several of these buzzing among the crocuses at work today. They never stay still for long though, out of about six photos, this is the only one I managed to get in focus.

True, and it is not very big but does have diverse habitats, parkland, woodland, farmland, reed beds and mudflats. There was a small flock of redwings but were very nervous as well as Goldcrest and Nuthatches. I always go for a wander early morning before I go to the Plant Centre for my VW.
                  Nice Bee Trunky.:blue thumb:

Got back from Birmingham before the Sun went down and had my usual amble around the garden and saw my first of these for this year.

And just as I sat in the Arbour I spotted the first Bee of the season sitting on a white Crocus but he flew off before I could raise the camera!!:gaah::coffee:

Is it a secret what you saw in the garden Armandii or is it just me who can't see the pic?

We've had loads of different birds in the garden all through the winter - all the tits, chaffinches, goldfinches, woodpeckers, blackbirds, sparrows, robins, collared doves etc. One bird I've never seen in this area at all is a magpie though.

Lots more bumblebees around now though, enjoying the hellebores and crocuses.
